Hi all.Further to my recent post, i am asking for your comments on insurance companies. Silly prices, modification problems etc. Good or bad. Name them and lets see if we can improve things somehow. Not always are the cheapest policies the best. This is your chance to fight back or compliment.

I'll never, ever use The Halifax again!

Got my RCZ with a couple of months left on the cover of my previous car (MX5).
To cancel the policy, the fee was a ridiculous £50 odd.
To update the policy to cover my RCZ was a similar amount.
This 'similar amount' would actually bump the overall premium to over £150 more than any other competitive quote I'd had elsewhere because the MX5 price was quite high to start with.

I asked why I was being stung for so much as the Peugeot has a solid roof and the engine is 1.6 as opposed to 2L, the response was that the new car has 200BHP.
Now, that is maybe a fair comment but I pointed out that actually, the new premium is nowhere near a competitive price - as if the lad was a robot I got the same comment again about the Horses so I was obviously not going to get anywhere.

I paid the extra to see me to the end of the 12 months and no-one in this house will be using The Halifax for as long as I'm around!!

Correct action in my opinion. Vote with your feet. I won't ever use Norwich Union or Aviva as it is now, nor will I use Admiral.

Norwich Union hiked my car insurance price when I rented out my home in a quiet village in rural Lincolnshire and moved to a "not such a good area" of Rugby. Fair enough. But they then hiked the price yet again when I moved back to my home in rural Lincolnshire :wtf: I was not a happy bunny.

I had a Renault Clio 172 sport that I insured through Morethan for six years, each year the renewal went up by £10 to £20 so I stuck with them, then with a couple of months to go to my next renewal i bought a 1.4 Honda civic. When I rang up I was expecting not to pay anymore as the Honda was only 100 bhp but was shocked when I was told I had another £40 to pay. The guy on the phone just kept saying that's what the computer was saying. I was paying £300 ish for the Clio but when Morethan sent my renewal they wanted £540 for the Honda. A quick look on line and I got the Honda insured with the AA for £180. The crazy thing is that the next one down on the list was Morethan for £195. Its good to know your being looked after for being a loyal customer  I won't make that mistake again.

before i got my Z i insured my 1.6 ford focus on a freely accessible estate where anyone could get to my car for £200 with swinton. i then moved onto camp with my wife (RAF base) behind a six foot fence with barbed wire and two armed guards with automatic weapons, and they demanded another £100 !!!!! i voted with my feet and went elsewhere, changed to my beloved and saved even more

Hi,

I get the feeling that it has something to do with new customer discounts? When you change your policy you have already been hooked and therefore no longer eligible for the best deals.

I had a similar issue and got quoted a ridiculous fee, with admin fees ranging from £150, £1,25, £75, £25 and £15 plus the new inflated fee. The irony is on the policy is sates the fees to change the the policy is £26.50! I just kicked off and they soon dropped to less than half the original quote. Just to avoid the hassle I have renewed but fully intend to switch at the end of the year. All the companies are the same. just keep switching and get rewarded for being disloyal.

They are just a bunch of lying money garbing sales men that will take whatever they can from you, they don't give a dam about you or providing a good service, they just what your money.

I feel for youngsters getting insured for the first time, my daughter had a quote for a ford KA over £10K !!!!!

My own policy charges 17.50 for any changes. Had to pay initial fee and then had to change to my own plate. So they charge 17.50 just to do THEIR job . Its all part of the hidden charges that insurance companies hide in small print. And yes,im back...

Our renewal came through for the RCZ and the Fiat 500 Twinair which were both on a Multicar quote.

Combined the quote was over £1,000. The Fiat around £450 and the Peugeot about £650.

So I called them to remove the business insurance from the RCZ and to remove the Fiat. They quoted £840.

After I laughed at him and told him I'd already had a better quote elsewhere, he came back with a renewal amount £275 a year.
