Hi everyone,
I got my side mirror crushed really badly today and so I have decided to finally get myself a dashcam and have it installed. As I hat have cables around the car, I want to have a clean and professional install of the cam with the cables. As far as I have been able to read, most poeple will get the cable along the A-piller down to the fuse box.

I'd like to ask who has installed a dash cam and if so, did you face any problems with hiding the cables? Did you connect the cam to the fuse box? And if so, which fuse and earthing point did you choose?

It would be great if someone had some pictures as well. :)
Thanks for your help.

Cheers!

I installed a camera in my RCZ, off the top of my head I piggy backed off the driver's side window/mirror control fuse.
Maybe. Either that or the electric seat fuse. I've not owned an RCZ for nearly 2 years, so my memory is a little patchy.

I used the frame of the dashboard as an earth, seemed to work fine. Hiding the cable is a little work, but nothing too hard.

I added a lighter socket inside the glovebox (tapped into the existing socket). I use it to power the dashcam (the cable is tucked behind the headlining and behind the A pillar trim.

I needed to take the Glovebox out to do the install, but its a simple job and no wires are visible.

I installed front and rear dashcams. The front , I tucked the cable into the headlining and then down the A post and out behind the glovebox. I piggybacked a fuse of the same rating as the dashcams hard wiring kit. I don’t remember which one it was, it’s @ 7 years since I installed them. I also used a handy screw I found round the back of the glovebox to earth.
As for the rear, I piggybacked another fuse and ran a cable up the A post and under the headlining to the rear of the car then down the C post and into the boot under the parcel shelf. I hid the cable behind the boot lining and installed a double accessory socket behind the left hand access flap. I plugged the rear camera into that and ran the cable back along the same route and along the headlining to the centre of the rear screen.
No cables are visible in the car or the boot.

I bet he never stopped as would have been unaware of what happened.. Years ago I was in my Ford escort sat waiting to turn right and a lorry 🚛 pulled out to the left and it's trailer back end hit me from the back pushing the car into the road and had two young kids in the back and he didn't know that he had hit us it took another car ten miles before he could stop the lorry and tell him what he had just done... Crazy 🤪
