Ignition coils/misfiring

Greetings.

I have a 2015 RCZ R, 50,000 miles, usually runs beautifully. But it has a recurring problem. 3 times in 3 years, with no warning, power is suddenly reduced, the engine warning light comes on, at least two cylinders aren't firing and I limp to the nearest garage. On two occasions, this has been diagnosed as blown ignition coils, which were replaced, along with spark plugs, and the problem was fixed. But an ignition coil should be fine for at least 80,000 miles and I have twice had to replace them.

I now have the same problem AGAIN and am reluctant to pay another £400 before asking the assembled experts on this forum if this sounds familiar, and what other explanations there might be. Any suggestions gratefully received.

£400 for coils ! GSF or EurocarParts, less than £30 each. Easy to fit.

The AA charged me over £100 to supply and fit one, sadly I was not in a position to go and buy one myself. I've never felt so ripped off.

There are a few threads here about coils, Can't remember who - but they change them every year or so.

I don't know if the R has different coil packs, but I replaced one on my 200 and it was about £25.
I also had Diagbox, which having owned numerous Peugeots, more than paid for itself.

My 200 sport has had 2 sets of plugs & 1 full set of coil packs over 5-1/2 yrs 1st plug set on 37.085-2nd set 55.452 Klms the coil packs failed on 56.733 so do they last till 80.000 ?
Problems with direct injection engines can derive from burning out plugs destroying overheating coil packs as was evident in my case as I began cleaning the plugs from around 52.000 as the car began to lack fast pick up on acceleration then It developed misfires on cold start up so I suspected the plugs were dying so changed them then the misfire reappeared on acceleration so out went the four coil packs but you must always remember its strongly recommend all four are changed together not mix & match !

Hmm, my RCZ has just recently turned 61k…….so I am looking coil packs in the face, forewarned and all that…
The pile of ‘just in case’ or ..usually around xx miles’ I have put together is ever growing since I had to wait 5 weeks for handbrake cables from Peugeot.
At least the coils are common enough.

Thanks for all the above. The cost isn't really the issue, though. I was wondering if there was some underlying cause.
