I have a question

Hi everyone, thanks for letting join and learn. I have a 1.6 petrol THP and the other day it lost oil pressure within half a kilometer after leaving home. I stopped and checked the oil and coolant and both were empty, they were fine when I left two minutes earlier. Where did they go?

Check for leaks everywhere around & under the Engine is there any Oily residues in the coolant tank ? To lose both oil & coolant at that rate can only suggest that it may be the head gasket has started to fail check if there is a lot of soot in the tailpipe then take out the plugs & see if they are dry?

Thanks for your replies, here's the strange thing, I checked under the hood to see if there was any telltale signs etc, that was after I put my finger in the exhaust pipe. Not oily only slightly sooty. Now much to my amasment the coolant bottle had coolant in it and when I checked the door stick it was one litre over full, now that is the litre I had from the last service. I have no idea what is going on.

First off from what your saying there is Way too much oil in that engine secondly you need to check the cooling system ?

It has an extra litre of oil because when it stopped it showed that it had ran out of oil. So I put one litre in to get home because that was all I had at the time. Next day the missing oil is back plus the extra I put in. Where did it go for 24 hours, plus where did the coolant go , It's got me totally mystified.

I think I have an explanation. My friend said to me that it's an oil temperature gauge and not a pressure gauge. He says I stopped and should have waited for a couple of minutes and then checked the oil as it takes time for the oil to drain back into the sump, so that means I overfilled it, and as for the coolant he says that on the last service when they flushed the cooling system that it's possible that it wasn't blead properly and it has an air bubble in the system. What do you all think, does that sound reasonable.

Very reasonable explanation to me. What would be my worry is about the over filling of oil and what that could do..

Thanks for your support, I will drain the oil and change the filter and replace it with new oil and filter etc. I really appreciate the fact that people would spend the time and give me great insights like you just did. Thank you.

2 simple things to remember never ever overfill the Oil level & check it repeatedly at least every 2-3 weeks if using the car regularly & if your drain the coolant refill & pressurize the system then leave it overnight if possible for the vacuum (Trapped Air) to make its way out through the expansion bottle then top up

What he said Also, never leave the oil long enough for the low oil light to come on. It’s too late if that happens. As Pedro said, check the oil level using the dipstick very regularly. Never overfill, but keep it as close to the Max mark as possible.
The Prince engine is very susceptible to low oil levels, and many of them use oil through regular use.
