Those winter tyres look handy - I was shopping around online the other day out of interest and found that you can now get a 235 40 19 winter tyre - but at  £350 each!!!!
That seems a lot of money.

I bought Continental Winter contact TS830P 235/40 19 4 x £169 + VAT = £811.20 fitted and balanced.
Fuel: F. Grip: C. Noise 72dB

They will probably be cheaper during the summer months too

I have had no issues with them and they worked perfectly for me.

I'm with Ron...that's awfully overpriced. The Winter Contact Contis are widely acclaimed as one of the best winter tyres on the market and are available in the right tyre size for a 19ins wearing 'Z at a fraction of the price and, having used then extensively from November through to the start of April in all manner of wintry (and non wintry) condition and temperatures, I can attest to their quality.

but 235 35 19 is not the right size Rizz - it's 24mm smaller than the right size in diameter which means the speedo will read 3.5% out. It would I'm sure invalidate insurance also unless you informed the insurance co. that you were running different sized winter tyres to the manufacturers spec...

Sorry we're going off topic here!

Although you have prompted me to search on Continental's website and found that through their main dealer you can get them in the right size for £207 per corner :D

http://www.performancealloys.com/tyre-search-results.aspx?size=235/40R19&type=WINTER

This website seems to have a MUCH bigger range of tyres in our size than the usual suspects (etyres, blackcircles, tyreshopper etc. etc.)

Hence why I said that the Winter Contacts "ARE available in the RIGHT tyre size" johnw.

I'm only teasing. ;-) However, I really did my homework on winter tyres and you may find this thread useful and maybe more appropriate. However, the Pirellis and the Contis are the only ones that really score well in the winter tyre tests but the former certainly don't surpass the contis and cannot justify their additional 100 odd bucks. (Also, worth noting that these are the only two that Pug recommend and will hold up with ALL insurers for this reason.)

Also i thought it revved quite a lot while driving 65 mph or so it was at about 3100 RPM. Is that really normal?!

Is that in 6th gear?

I hold a pretty steady 3,000RPM at around 90mph in 6th, so yours does sound quite high.

JWT, which engine have you got? Mine is the THP200 (same as Tomas) and my revs are around 3000 at 70mph in 6th gear.
That might actually be the case on mine too (3000 at 70ish) cause i thought i saw something like that today. I was probably so exited and whatnot earlier that i hadn't noticed how it really was :D

John. You have just caused me to go upstairs and get my receipt out and check it. That said 235 so then into the loft to check the tyres they said 235. PANIC. Went outside to car and the summer tyres say 235 also.

Correct winter tyres purchased........... Phew !! Don't do that again. I have a heart condition don't you know

Ron, how are you storing your tyres in the loft, are they stacked up or upright or hung on spare rims? Just want to check you're aware of how they need to be stored to prevent damage

They are not on rims and are laid singly on the beams on their sides.

I would be a little concerned that the beams may be acting as localised pressure points on the sidewalls, even though they're not stacked. Over several months this could lead to a slight deformation. If I might give you some advice, you may want to consider rotating them periodically or sliding a sheet of ply under them to eradicate the localised pressure?

Ron,

It's the profile that's 'wrong' (35 vs 40), not the width.

I also found that the 35 profile tyres I looked at had a lower load rating but that may not be the case for them all.

Oh $hit, I'm not going through all that again now. I will double check tomorrow, but I'm sure I have the correct ones.

Ron, I KNOW you're fine. I recall the extensive conversations we had about this in the "cheap winter tyres" thread that I put a link to earlier and you opting for the same as me. To quote a film (can ya guess it Jassy?), "chiiiiiiiillll winnnnnnston".

All been moved onto the boarded area and they are 235/40 19" Not sure now what they were meant to be, but this must be right

That is correct. They are the right size. Odd as I am sure your original post said 235 35 19. Oh well. I'll just have another glass of wine.

I have a question for you all that knows. Always when i switch the ignition on/start the car the stereo volume goes automatically to 6, so it's a lot of noise. Is there any way to make it stay at what i left it to when i stopped the car?

This happens atleast when i use a USB stick, not sure if it's the same with radio only.

I have the auto volume deactivated. How does that thing work anyway?

The radio will come back on at the setting it was at when switched off.
The USB will NOT, bugs me a lot !!! I have put mine back into the dealer and there is nothing they can do.
