I had the usual 0087 code plus missfire 1331,2,4 . The 6/12 model THP-156 with 46k miles went into limp mode . Decided to get a refurbished HPFP (1920ll) from China. Took of my pump measured the membrane (as per You tube videos) got 27mm (fail). Checked my Chinese pump 27mm as well . Decided to refurbish my pump. Took of the reservoir; drained, cleaned, added new hydraulic fluid (synthetic recommended). Submerged in a bath of hydraulic fluid (so no air remains) overnight, than assembled it while submerged. Got 15mm on the membrane. Fitted and took for a test drive, within 50 mt. orange fault light turned off. Drives normally, revs to 6000 well, so far 1000 miles no problems (although, others keep telling me these refurbishments, without changing all the seals, only last up to 2000 miles. I'll wait and see). PS refurbished the Chinese pump (had dirty oil inside, obviously second hand not refurbished) also got 15mm on the membrane.

I recently got the same error code and the car is going in the garage on weds. The mechanic is going to take it out and I'll send it off to get fixed.
I was looking on Ebay for the guy (789mikea) who does refurbishment but couldn't find him (if anyone can post the link it would be appreciated)

However, there is a website that seems to offer a similar service, (link below)

High Pressure Fuel Pump Service Repair for Mini PSA Peugeot Citroen PUG RCZ 208GTI, Mini Cooper & 1.6 THP N18

Has anyone used this service if so how was it ?
Or
If anyone has any better recommendations I would be delighted to hear them

Thanks

Thought I would update on my above post because after speaking to the guy who runs this service;

High Pressure Fuel Pump Service Repair for Mini PSA Peugeot Citroen PUG RCZ 208GTI, Mini Cooper & 1.6 THP N18

I decided that I would give it a go and sent my pump off to get refurbished. My local mechanic removed it and I packaged it up and mailed it. It was returned to him and he had it refitted in a few days. Now the car seems to be running superbly and I just cannot recommend that website enough if you have a HPFP issue.

The whole thing cost £150.00 for the rebuild, £60 for my mechanic to remove and refit and maybe a tenner for postage. Bargain :)

That pump is a magnificent piece of hydraulic engineering, but it has a problem with the oil.

The oil loses volume over time as sludge builds up.

The pump has a small oil reservoir in a diaphragm, but it's too small. When the oil runs low, cavitation occurs, and the pump starts to malfunction.

I bought a used pump for mine intending to learn how to fix it. There’s a few YouTube videos on it but I can’t see which seals to get or what hydraulic fluid is right. So I haven’t had a go yet. I paid £40 for the pump. You can see why they are pretty expensive new. It doesn’t look totally beyond me to sort all the same. But if I make a howling mess I’ll just send it off to be done properly 🙄

Is it something that was ever upgraded to make it less likely to fail?
