Have just bought 1.6, 2011 RCZ. Just want to say it has exceeded my expectations so far. Unfortunately it has come with problems. It has a coolant leak and oil leak. The mechanic has said the rcz comes with problems and are notorious for oil leaks. Is this true?

Hi and welcome, as with most cars there are common issues, with the RCZ petrol engines you can get oil leaks in a few common places the most commonest is the rocker cover gasket, then there’s timing chain tensioner and turbo oil feed pipe and oil filter housing and also oil cooler 🤦‍♂️
coolant leaks possible thermostat housing and expansion tank it has been known for the expansion bottle cap to fail but doesn’t normally show any signs of failure.
You should be able to sort these out without too much fuss just make sure you take it to someone who’s conversant with this engine also the mini specialists are worth a try. 👍

Thanks for getting back to me. Have just bought the car so its still in warranty, which means going back to the dealer to fix. I'm not sure they are familiar with these cars. I would prefer to take to a specialist but I would be mad to pay for something that I could get for free, meaning the repairs. I have a feeling they won't be a able to resolve my issues.

Oil leaks are rare, however coolant leaks are common.

The initial batch of water pumps had a cheap plastic impeller, and casing that deteriorates. Revised part (from 2013 onwards), now made of metal. I had three replaced on my 207 cc Sport THP150 (Model 2009). Still have her, The French Tart.

The other failure is what is called the coolant exhaust pipe (strange name). Having mine replaced on my RCZ Mk2 THP200 today in fact.

Good luck with your repairs. Having mine looked at on Tuesday. Hopefully will get sorted. Really enjoying the drive of my rcz and can't wait to get it working perfectly.
