Its as reliable as any other car. If its properly maintained, you shouldn't worry about it. Also, a lot depends on your luck as to how the previous owner took care of it. Although, 5K even in pounds seems a little low to me. I paid 10k EUR for 13' year with relatively low mileage.

What you should look for: stamped service history, proper mileage (check it with VIN) and open the oil cap on the engine, if it has yoghurt-like sludge underneath - steer clear of that car. Also make sure that the technical check-up (MOT) history is flawless. Other stuff are hard and/or almost impossible to spot if you have no experience with servicing the type of engine in the car.

What type of fuel is better, I'd say if you use it for shorter drivers (city, etc.) take the Petrol, otherwise the diesel.

Hopefully you find a RCZ that suits you. You'll absolutely love how it looks and how it drives.

I've just called about a car thats done 90k miles on a 60 plate 200bhp under 5k price 2 owners the cars ment to be in good condition
with lots of history, the dealer claims the car can put out a little smoke when sat in traffic when pulling away he says this is the turbo and is
nothing to worry about and is normal for these cars ?

Mine has white smoke visible when stationary - during colder and more humid weather. I've seen couple of other RCZs doing the same, so I think its fine.

Welcome to the Family Ian as for the smoke when you run from cold in damp/cold weather you'll see some smoke/steam it is normally the condensate being burnt off after the car has stood overnight but not attributed to the Turbo? Regarding the purchase of a Z its as NF7 pointed out finding a decent one that is below £5K may prove daunting unless you get the full history & things that are generically prone to fail on high mileage cars are the timing chain tensioners/chain some engine sensors/ batteries if its the original one plus the HPF pumps are known to fail anytime regardless of mileage & usual service consumables like brake discs pads & so on the main one to take care of is Oil services I would recommend say around 3 / 4 or 5000 Klms which is vital on the BMW Prince Engine variants & as this car has a fairly high mileage I would on purchase immediately change the oil & filter (Quartz Ineo low saps 3/W 5.30 viscosity & check the Air filter for condition as these Engines need lots of clean Air so good luck & if you buy a car let us know if you get any hiccups

Hi snd welcome the Diesel is usually bulletproof but well looked after petrols can be just as reliable you need to find a truly pampered example which may be hard for your cash but don’t jump at the first car you see it’s easy to get carried away with these cars beauty if buying a petrol make sure the car is stone cold before you start it as this is the telltale timing chain issue if the chain needs replacing it will sound like a Diesel engine for a short while then quiet down but these engines aren’t the quietest so don’t get confused. Then take for a good blast don’t hold back as most problems or faults throw up on hard Acceleration things should be all good no hesitation or eml’s. Other thing to check on all cars are jacking points they’re made of Swiss cheese and fold at the sight of a tyre fitters jack these can be costly to repair and is a good bargaining point if you find one flat.
Smoking on long idle or at junctions can be valve stem oil seals on the petrol and not turbo personally I would touch any car that the seller admits it’s smoking 🙁
Good luck in your search keep us informed how you get on 👍
