Hello from Ireland

Hi, I figured it would be a good idea to join on here. I've just recently bought a 2012 Peugeot RCZ 1.6 THP, in white. I had to buy it from the UK though, not many of the things here, especially in petrol guise.

Aaaanyway. Hello. Are there any other Irish owners on here? I'm in Dublin.

Yes, just seen renegade's RCZ, very similar to mine only my own alloys aren't black. He isn't in Limerick by chance, is he?

Welcome. I've just moved from Dublin and I'm living in Wicklow now. Congrats on the car. Apart from
The 'R' that Peugeot Ireland have as a press car, I would say that your car is probably the only other petrol one this side of the border. They truly are a rare beast!

Are petrol versions really that rare in the Emerald Isle?!?! Why is that?!

Tax. Post-2008 cars pay road tax based on co2 emissions and petrol engine cars usually have higher co2 emissions, this "rule" was only brought in around 2008 and diesels just took over then. Before this tax was based on engine size, pre-2008 cars still pay tax on the "old system"

12 months tax on my 1.6 THP RCZ is €570 whereas 12 months tax on an identical 2.0 HDI RCZ is €280.

I haven't actually seen or heard of another petrol RCZ over here, but I hadn't realised they are as rare as you say. I couldn't justify a diesel, because I only do about 15,000 kms per year. I've had mine a full month this Wednesday, picked it up from cargiant in the UK after initially wanting to buy a Honda CRZ!

Yes petrol rcz's are like gold dust round here. I have seen literally none for sale in the past year and a half. Peugeot Ireland (don't really know why) have registered an "R' because I've seen it in articles getting a full review. Coincidentally, the co2 emissions for the R are less than the 200 version making it cheaper to tax here.
The tax rates here are lunancy and the government are forcing everyone to drive diesel or small petrol engined cars. For example a 2007 BMW 520d costs €710 to tax but the 2008 model only costs €280.

That's insane. Road tax prices are emissions based in the UK too but they don't come in anywhere near that price!! I'd expect my roads to be made of marble if I was paying that kinda money!!

From memory I think my last year's road tax on a 156 was around £142!!!!

You think that's a lot?
I pay EUR. 110 road tax every month for my HDi in the Netherlands.
But I have to say, we do have the best roads in the world!

We have an insane tax system which heavily disadvantages diesel and LPG, even though with the current technology these engines are actually the most environment friendly.
So here most RCZ are on petrol for that reason (opposite to Ireland).

BTW back on topic, welcome to the forum Simonigs and enjoy your RCZ THP!
