Well I had a small accident this morning, which was totally my fault (I think!) but I'm just really annoyed and angry with myself.

The story goes like this.
I was at my mum's house, pulled onto the drive. I always help her into the car and make sure that she is strapped in and then I walk around the car and get in myself. Nothing out of the norm this morning. So puts the car into reverse, slowly edge to the top of the drive, look right, look left, nothing coming so reverse slowly out. Next thing...... crunch !
A few swear words rip round my head, but I held it together because my mother was in the car.

Pulled back onto the drive and got out. There's a Ford Ka, parked across the road, opposite my mum's house and I reversed into the rear/side wheel arch area of the car (big plastic areas of the Ka). Looked all over the woman's car, who was present, and who was very, very nice. If it was me, I would have been ranting and raving "blooming stupid woman ". Her car was fine, nothing to see, as I was only going slowly. Obviously the plastic wheel arches had done their job of just flexing. She said there was nothing to see. We exchanged details but she insisted that I wouldn't be hearing from her.

On the road, beside the Ka was a little bit of black trim. Looked at my car and saw where the little piece of black trim was from. It had fallen off the centre of the rear valance, which holds the reversing lights in place. The reversing light were not smashed but pushed forwards slightly. But no other marks to be seen. No marks on the paintwork, so I actually got away with it very lightly. I've arranged for the car to be looked at tomorrow by my dealer so hopefully it won't cost me too much money. :eusa-think: I've driven the car and there's no unusual noises and everything seems fine, apart from a bit of gap in the rear lower diffuser.

BUT the thing that's now really gauling me is the fact that the reason I didn't really see the car was because the Ford Ka should not have been there in the first place, as it was parked on double yellow lines :eusa-think: My mum's house is almost on a corner, next to a doctor's surgery, so there are double yellow lines on both sides of the road for about 50 yards, so no one should be parked outside, or opposite her house. Is this the reason why the woman was so pleasant? If this did go further for example and Insurance companies were involved, would they see it as her being in the wrong. :?:

Not that I want it to go down the Insurance company route, but it just got me thinking. :eusa-think:

The good thing is no-one was injured

Sorry to hear about this RCZ1, it's always a horrible feeling when you make contact with another car, no matter how little damage is caused! As you say though the main thing is nobody was hurt :)

You're probably expecting this response, I would have thought that whether the Ka should have been parked there or not is irrelevant, you hit a stationary vehicle so it would go down as an at fault claim for you.

Best of luck repairing the diffuser!

Bad times!! :( Still...it could have all been so much worse! Cars are easier repaired than people so I'm happy to hear that no one is injured.

Hopefully your car will be repaired quickly and cheaply.

Young lady....... what are you like. Of course no insurance company would put her at fault in these circumstances. Yes, she was illegally parked and that is an issue, however a totally separate issue is that you reversed your lovely Pearl into her car.

Fortunately due to the low speed impact nobody was hurt, apart from your pride. I know exactly how you are feeling, because I too have done something rather silly this evening. I pulled up onto the driveway a little more than usual and opened the car door a little faster and wider than usual and the door hit against a plant pot  So I now have my very first dent in my beautiful Pearl2. I have nobody to blame except myself and I am incredibly annoyed about it.

Ron, that is bad news. I know exactly how you are feeling. I'm still annoyed with myself now.

The good news for me is that my good man has repaired the lower diffuser. It had pushed backwards and upwards slightly, but it's all back in place, like nothing ever happened :)

I've really had a bad day today. Got called into my boss' office this afternoon to be told that there was a male colleague sobbing in the men's toilet because of something I said to him - shocked or what. I only spoke firmly to him because he would not take a phone call off one of my office team- its not the first time he's done it either. Cor blimey!

Good news about the car...less so about the colleague. I think the phrase "man up" is particularly apt here. What a big Jesse.

Unbelievable

If the Ka hadn't of been there, then I wouldn't have hit it
Good Luck with that Defence

The Ka would not have been hit if you hadn't driven into the Ka.
Your car wouldn't have been damaged if you hadn't driven into it.

Can you see the pattern forming here
People got to take responsbility instead of trying to "dump" on others all the time.

Pleased you / a young child wasn't injured.

What happened to your Reversing Sensor though ?? This should have given you ample warning that something was there.

With regard your unfortunate Colleague. You don't know what sort of a "bad day" he may have had as well.
Your encounter could well have been the last straw for him.

That's exactly what I'm doing now, watching the Olympics :)

Just done my duties - feeding next door's chickens with raspberry leaves - they love those, and having a little chat with them, mulling over the meaning of life, etc. They don't have a care in the world :)

Gorwell, I'm not going to get into a discussion with you of the rights and wrongs. I KNOW I'm to blame and I'm not looking to blame anyone else. It was just a hypothetical question. It was a stupid thing to do, but the fact remains that the car should not have been parked there. BUT it will make me more cautious in the future.

As regards the sensor, the sensors always go off anyway, because there is a barrier on the far side of the road as I reverse out, so again, it's a bit like a house alarm that keeps going off, you start to ignore them after a while.

Trust a man to stick up for a man. That's what my boss said "he's under stress". - We all are for God's sake! I'm fed up with people coming out with this all the time. I've got my own on-going personal problems but I keep them to myself and get on with my job. It seems the more you shout about them, the more respect you get and the more I get **** on.

Yeah I was going to ask about the reversing sensor?

Years back I took a year off from my usual profession and became a bus driver, 2 weeks shared tuition, quick test and good to go with a 42 foot long bus (that kinda worried me). So a few months in all is well, I'm enjoy the stress free life and tootling along on the number 7 in Bristol. I spy my next stop and notice there is a clio parked in the middle of it, so I pull the front of the bus in diagonally, quite close to the clio and blocking it's exit, my back wheels just ahead of the front of the car.

So I spend 5 minutes taking on passengers and whatnot, at this point another bus has pulled in infront of me, so I have to turn the wheel to lock to get out, merrily forgetting about the clio and the 8 foot of bus or so behind the rear wheels, which swung round and took the entire front foot of the car off, including radiator.

Suffice to say the occupant, a really very big angry looking man was not immediately put at ease with my apologies. Anyway a plod turned up shortly before I was sure this guy was gonna make working bits of me not work anymore, and told us to exchange details. I gave him the depot address and he proceeding to blatantly invent a home address.

Anyhow the point of this is, I got back to the depot and told the manager what had happened and protested that he was parked illegally and learnt that it means nothing unless someone is parked 'dangerously'. also told I'd get a warning if the guy made a claim, which of course, he didn't.

The bus was fine after the experienced application of a lump hammer ;)

I'm with gorwell here, but it's clearly your Mum's fault, had she not needed a lift then you would have reversed, etc ;)

I especially like the praise on not injuring a small child, but I'd like to add cute puppies and white rhinos (cos they're like endangered!) ;)

Sorry you've had a trying few days RCZ1 and you're right, the less fuss you make and the more you actually handle the stresses of life the less consideration you get. I was crossing my fingers for the end of your story to say the owner of the Ka was the leaking co-worker :)
