gtechniq protection

Hi fellas, I know there has been a couple of write ups on these products but I was wondering if there there were any new thoughts. I am looking at coating my car with the crystal lacquer then finishing off with Exo.Any thoughts appreciated

You can't go wrong with Gtechniq IMO. If its durability you are after then go for it.

C1 has been on my husband's car for 17 months and it's still going strong. Topping with EXO will add great gloss levels too.

There has been a bit of an update with using EXO over C1 in that you should aim to apply EXO about 3 or 4 hours after applying C1. There have been some problems reported with EXO when applied over C1 when it's been more than 12 or 24 hours. Gtechniq state 3 to 4 hours after C1 is the best time.

Please post some pics when you get it done.

Thanks for that, will be applying very soon. The problem is trying to get my better half to give up my Christmas prezzy early (new polisher) to get rid of the nuisance swirl marks. Im hoping that this treatment is going to give a bit more resistance. I follow a strict cleaning method as advised on here and still get them. Will post some photos when done. Thanks again

Does Exo not need to be applied with the surface panels being at around 18-20 deg C? I only seems to recall this as it was one of the things that put me off using it despite its excellent reputation and impressive results. Has the updated version changed this?

Even with the most careful of wash regimes you will still get some swirls, particularly on Peugeot paint as it is quite soft.
You are doing the right thing by having a good wash AND drying technique.

It's worth remembering when drying the car that you should never put a totally dry cloth on the paintwork as this will induce swirls too. It's always best to spray a drying cloth with a quick detailer to slightly dampen it so that it's not rough when drying the car.

The original version of EXO v1 needed to be applied in temperatures over 20c up to 35C.
The upgraded version EXO v2 can be applied in temperatures as low as 5C.

As with C1 and EXO it's best not to let it get wet for 12 hours or more.

IF I decide to go for my GTi next (chances are it'll be a red or black one) ... and I imagine the Rioja will show up the swirls just as much as Amber does and I imagine black will be hellish to look after (never had a black car) anyhoo .... I'm tempted to book my car in as soon as I know delivery date to get fully gtechniq'd from AM details in Elgin ... before a washmit gets near it......

My brother in law has just booked his new Black Edition S5 into Polished Bliss. I'm eager to go with him to see the results and to check out their set up.

I think that would be a wise move Donna. Ask the dealer not to touch it at all and take it directly to AM for him to do his magic.

Black cars look great for 5 minutes after being washed and detailed. They are however a nightmare to keep looking good and show every mark.

The other thing to bear in mind with EXO is that you shouldn't put anything on top of it for about a year at which time the beading will be starting to fail. You can then top with C2v3 or reapply EXO for a new lease of life.

You also need to use a shampoo that contains no waxes ie it's natural free of any additives. Gwash, Car Chem Shampoo 1900:1 or Chemical Guys Mr Pink are recommended.
