Gtechniq C2 and Wax

Hi
I have always used C2 on the previous car and have now put three coats on the new RCZ I have always been pleased with the finish and ease of application as it goes on easily and the gloss level and hydrophobic properties have always been impressive. However I have now read one of the posts were RCZ1 has started using wax on the car and this has now started me pondering the return to this with the RCZ to this end I have a few questions.

1. Can I apply wax over the C2 paint sealant or am I going to need to use something to remove it, in which case I will probably stick with regular reapplication of the C2.

2. If yes to question one, would I achieve a higher gloss / deeper finish with wax over the C2 or am I not going to see much of a difference / improvement in which case again I will stick with C2.

3. If yes to question 1 and question 2, what are peoples experiences and preferences on a wax for this purpose.

Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick

1. Yes you can apply wax over C2 without any problems.

2. Would you achieve a higher gloss/ deeper finish? See much difference? Well this question has always been open to debate. Some will say that you can't tell a difference between any LSP on the paintwork. I would disagree. I think there are differences in looks between different LSPs (sealants and wax). You have to remember that in general, sealants give a more glassy reflective finish whereas waxes give a deeper, richer, warmer glow to the paint. I've always used waxes on my Moroccan red except during this last winter when I used Gyeon Can Coat sealant/coating. The difference in finish was very noticeable as I had a more glassy (some might say sterile) look to the paint. Now the weather has started to warm up I've started applying waxes on top of the Can Coat. So I now have longer lasting protection as a base but I know have a warmer look, that I much prefer on red paintwork, giving a more wet / deeper look that I like.

3. As for which wax to go for, that would depend how often you would want to wax and if you are after a very wet look and or ease of use? Show waxes tend to give a wet look on the whole. Some to consider would be Auto Finesse Illusion or Spirit, Bouncers Capture the Rapture (this may require a secondary buff after a few hours) and a wax that I've recently used that has really impressed me after thinking for years that it wouldn't, which is Swissvax Best Of Show. But don't despair, you can buy 50ml pots for £60, not £195 for a full sized pot. All the above waxes have one thing in common and that is that they are all very easy to apply and very easy to buff off. They are all quite oily so spread well which means you don't use a lot each time you wax. Thin layers.

Hope this helps answer your question :)

RCZ1, thanks for the in depth reply it now gives me something to think about longevity is not necessarily an issue as I am somewhat OCD in terms of car washing / polishing. C2 supposedly is good for 6 - 8 months in the case of my car it will be lucky if it gets two weeks before retreating as I find washing and polishing the car a good way to de-stress unless I find a stone chip or scratch  .

If I am going to wax do I need to use a pre wax cleaner over the C2 I used Gtechniq PW before the C2 went on, but in terms of the wax it wont be attaching to the paint only the C2 sealant. If I do need to sanitize the surface I assume I could use PW again?

Cheers
