Gearbox/transmission problems

Does anyone have problems engaging 1st gear, especially when cold ?

I have the HDi engine.

I find it's ok pulling away just after starting the engine, but if i have to stop again it won't go into gear unless i keeping pumping the clutch and revving the engine.

The car's done 9,000 miles and I still find the gearbox very heavy and rough (even when the car's warmed up) and the clutch pedal feels spongey at times. I have owned many Peugeots, but the transmission on this is the worst. It's a real shame as the rest of the car is superb !

Also had a Safety Recall through the post today from Peugeot - Campaign YYW

"A protective sheath must be fitted to a fuel pipe in the engine compartment to avoid potential damage to the pipe caused by contact with it surrounding components"

Not had that with either of my two over a combined miles of about 17,000.

What did your dealer say about it when you got them to check the car?

There is already a thread running on the recall, it involves a quick check on a fuel return pipe and having a plastic sheath fitted to it to give increased protection, only applies to the 2.0 diesel engine in various peugeot models - not just RCZ

Dealer said that they could find no fault, thay said it was no different from their own demo model.

The RCZ does have a mechanical feel to the gearchange compaired to what was often criticised as a vague change quality of previous peugeot cars.

Did you drive the demo car to get a comparison to your car? If not ask for a go in it to see if it is / feels the same as yours.

I have done 8500 miles and it's as sweet as when I got it. I also suggest you try a demo somewhere as I'm sure there is a problem with yours. :greetings-wavingblue:

Just back from my dealer

Recall YYW after i hour wait was told yes it did need a protective sheath fitting and they did not have one in stock Apparently they dont order the parts in in case they dont use them and have to stand the cost! So the car has to return for fitting when they have got one.

In the last 20 years I have had 8 new cars, 5 of which had to go back and never once on a safety recall was I sent away to wait for the part. It begs the question, what if the car now catches fire (I know it is very unlikely). Would they be negligent?

On the issue of the poor gearchange, mine often grates suggesting a lack of synchro in and out of 3rd and it is the roughest of changes when cold in and out of 1st and 2nd.

My friends at Stoneacre say their Finance Manager's does just the same so tough!

I have reported both issues to Peugeot Customer Service. The contact was a bit surprised at their agents efforts to say the least. I await contact from Peugeot.

Its my first Peugoet and first impressions are not too clever.

Have been getting an intermmitant noise when pulling away in 1st gear. always when the engine is being first started. son noticed this for 1st time last week in first 4 gears. noise went when clutch was depressed. dealer has told me they will only do something if one of their mechanics hears same said noise. rcz is in the shop for the 2nd time, and I am refusing to take it back unless something is done. Also had a valve replaced in the engine earlier this year. Also had bad burning smell from clutch during early part of owning car, assumed it was me just getting used to clutch, although have never had same problem during last 40 years of owning various cars.
