Hi All,

By beloved 2013 THP 156 RCZ has started rattling at 2000- 2500 Rpm when starting in the cold, (confirmed at latest service). It has the the second revision tensioner (with the dimple on the head) & has done 57000 miles, with what i assume is the original chain. Oil changes have been between 5000 and 7000 miles, and its been serviced yearly from new. No errors showing on my ECU/ODB, no engine warning lights and also the longterm fuel trims are well below 10%. Hopefully, no real timing issues yet and its been caught in time!

Main dealer quote is £1000 (& him indoors doesnt want to do it - too many fiddly bits apparently!). Also main dealer said they'd keep the price down by not draining the oil, if they could keep the car on an angle!! Should I be worried?

Just wondered if any of you guys know a reputable garage that I could trust to carry out the work on my car, (preferably in the northwest/Cheshire/Manchester area).

Dee

Ps. High pressure fuel pump was replaced last year by him indoors!

You sure its not the water pump when I bought my 2013 200 GT on 1st cold start at home it rattled its head off took it back to the garage they immediately changed water pump 37.095 & rattle disappeared I changed the Chain tensioner at 39.945 do oil services at between 3500 -4000 Klms
Regarding the dealer saying the oil needs to be on an angle are they tipping the car sideways? if you fit a new chain its advisable to have an oil service after the job is completed as clean oil means a cleaner engine & better protection
There is a Indie garage in Birkenhead he does Mercs but is very good on Peugeots & the Z s

Thanks Pedro, is it R&S services in Birkenhead? will give them a ring.

Will look into the water pump too, worth a go as no other indications the chain is stretched apart from noise, and it was below freezing on the day of service.
I think the main dealer did mean tilt the car to save having to drain oil, does not seem right as the oil is key to the engines life, why would they not want to change the oil, just seems odd for them to suggest that.
