Free First Service/Check - 2,500klms

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else can comment on the first check/service. My dealer has suggested to change the engine oil however the manual does not indicate this. They recommend to do this as the engine oil may have some impurities due to it being a new engine and initial wear. Anyone else out there had the oil changed at the first service :?:

I'm getting mine serviced at the prescribed service book intervals. I.e 20,000 miles or 1 year (which ever comes first). I plan to keep car for 3 years only, so warranty will cover any unfortunate issues (not that I'm expecting any!). Had my HDi since May 11. Done 16k miles and did the interval at 10k (no oil change). Another 4k or 4 months which ever comes first, then car will be treated to an oil change. If the manual said oil change recommended at 10k I would have gladly done this.

Thanks......just thought it was strange that changing the oil at 2,500 klms wouldnt be something Peugeot would actually stipulate in the service manual? If I am correct RCZ's run a synthetic engine oil.....so it would be very good quality!

Typhoon, I THINK what the garage does at the first service/warranty check is just check and top up fluids, therefore checking nothing's leaking. I don't think they replace the oil .... WHAT A WASTE of good oil that would be!!!

I spoke to the Peugeot service Manager later today.....he said they recommend to change the oil and filter at 2,500klms simply as a precaution! He said just in case the oil has some impurities in it due to the run in process......Gee I hope there is no metal particles or anything floating around in there! He said they only charge me for the oil and filter around $100 no labour.

The 1,000 mile check is just a check of the car not an oil change.

Its free of charge in the UK but may not be free in other countries like Australia where typhoon comes from.

As I understand typhoons post it's been suggested by his/her garage that it may be worth changing the oil at 2,500km and they have quoted $100 for the oil change.

So therefore it sounds like this oil/filter change is not being done at this time else where by other RCZ owners on this forum :?:

Yes, that's right.

Certainly, in the UK, the 1000 mile check is just that - a check.

Clearly, this is the manufacturer taking care of us. They just want to check that all is well with the newly delivered vehicle.
I suppose spotting things early and attending to them is both cheaper and better for the customer in the long run.

I would expect the basic policy to be the same world wide, unless there were special circumstances, like arduous conditions.

If you study the books that come with the car, a different maintenance schedule is specified for arduous conditions, together with a definition of what is meant by arduous. From memory, this is things like continuous, short, start-stop journeys, extremely dusty or hot/cold conditions etc.

Again, I can only speak with a degree of confidence regarding UK conditions, but I would say that most people can stick to the normal maintenance schedule. Some people feel the 20,000 mile / 2 year interval is too long for oil and elect to change it at half that, i.e. 10,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. So far as I know there is no other recommendation.

I note from your post that you appear to be quoting prices in dollars. Not sure exactly which 'flavour', but clearly you're not writing from Europe.

That being the case, perhaps there are special circumstances applicable and the advice you've given is correct. I would speak to your local dealer again for more clarification. If you're still concerned, could I suggest you contact Peugeot Group directly, by private message via this forum. I'm certain they'll do their best to ensure you get the best, most authoritative advice available.

Let us know how you get on, won't you.

My guess is that he's from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Austrialia.
Only a hunch mind, although I seem to be quite good at this sort of thing :eusa-whistle:

C'mon Typhoon, spill the beans ;)

$100 bucks is only right, think of all that free sunshine he's getting

I asked my dealer (Belgium). He told me the checkup was free. But I insisted on taking an oil and oilfilter change. Cost: only parts, no labour. 72€ quiet expensive oil. But I prefer an extra oilchange above a new engine.

Dealer said first service/check is free, no adverse driving circumstances so they recommend to oil/filter change purely as an extra measure to ensure the engine is protected. Much the same as Joske, just a precaution to look after the engine from new......Cost is $100 Aussie Dollars
