Fantastic post

I'm so looking forward to getting ours. It has been a long time since a car has engendered that much enthusiasm in me for cleaning etc.

Have you thought about publishing a booklet on Detailing your RCZ? Maybe Peugeot would pay you for it and slip it in the handbook wallet :!: :!:

Cheers

Dave

Thanks mrmedox. I think its highly unlikely that Peugeot would pay me anything :!:

Nice thought though :D

Hope you don't have too long a wait until you get your RCZ?

I noticed one of the brown spots (from iron filings?) yesterday, but thankfully T-cut got rid of it easily.

Hi Brooktop.

T-cut will not get rid of it. All you are doing is breaking the top of it off (so to speak, in the same way that claying would). Iron X works right into the paintwork to dessolve them to totally get rid of them. They are not really visible to the eye - hence why when you spray the Iron X they turn purple - red.

It did get rid of the brown mark, so perhaps that was something else?

Hi Karen - how you getting on with this horrible weather. After all the snow and ice, I was pleasantly surprised to see how my HD Wax/AB addiction combo was performing...still beading REALLY well, but gosh don't the sides get dirty?

Hi Brooktop

The Werkstat sealant is working very well in all this horrible weather. The beading on mine is great too - I'd go so far as to say the best beading I have ever had ! Unfortunately though nothing is going to stop the sides getting dirty, especially in this weather, although its not as bad as I thought it would be especially being lower to the ground.

I don't know when I'll be able to get mine cleaned though as our drive and garden still has snow and a very thick layer of ice. Any water is only going to make the drive even more icy and slippy. I'm at work in the morning and seriously concerned whether I'll be able to get the car down the drive. Its become very, very icy today and getting it down the drive tonight was a very hair raising experience.

I'd really recommend the G-Techniq G1 rain repellant stuff though. Its THE best product I've ever used. It never ceases to amaze me. I've not used my windscreen wipers yet (other than one flick, very, very occasionally) and I've had the car two months now. It even helps to stop ice forming on the windscreen. The other night I left work, everyone was defrosting their windscreens before getting in and driving off. I just walked up to mine, jumped in and drove off - nothing to defrost

How long have you had the HD wax / AB Addiction waxes on for now?

By the way, my name's Kerry ;)

Oops sorry about that. The hd was put on when I got the car at the end of September and the addiction went on about a month ago. The snow has gone in Nottingham so I'm going to snow foam and wash it today. Apparently it needs to be above 12c to put wax on. Don't know about the recommended temp for applying sealant. Am thinking of getting some but would do a clay and srp before applying any. I'll then go back to wax in spring.

That's the good thing about sealants, it can be applied in cold weather without any problems (obviously minus 5 or lower wouldn't be such a good idea - but you get my drift!). You don't have any curing time as such. Applied the Werkstat Jett Trigger sealant by spraying a panel then use clean cloth to spread it around, then get a another microfibre cloth to buff off - its so simple and so much quicker than waxing. I've got 3 layers of the Werkstat sealant on mine at the moment, but when I get chance to clean it, it will be getting another 3 layers. The more layers, the better the protection - 6 months or more. Although I have to admit, I do love applying waxes, so I'm not going to drop them completely. Besides, I've got lots of new ones, which I haven't tried yet. Will probably use them in the summer and sealants in the winter.

Which sealant are you thinking of getting?

Either c2 or Werkstst trigger. When you swap between wax and sealant, how do you prepare the surface? Was thinking of washing with washing up liquid and then srp.. And maybe a clay before the srp.

Good choices - both are great. I have C2 on my roof and Werkstat on the paintwork - both will give great protection. C2 8 months protection, 6 layers of Werkstat, 6 months or more.

Sealants cannot go over wax, so as you righly mention, you would need to remove your wax. Fairy liquid will remove everything so go with that. If I were you I would clay after washing. Then go for SRP or if you are going to go the G-techniq route, you could use their polish P1 (easy to use by hand), which will correct and not just fill swirls, like SRP does (still a great product though) or Werkstat have a polish (Werkstat Prime) if you are going to go the Werkstat route.

Let us know how you get on and which sealant you eventually go for.

Thanks. Spent hours this weekend and now feel rough as a badger's **** - cold in the family :-(
Must say though....loving the smell of Meguiar's tyre gel; smells like summer berries! I've given my wife's car an HD wax and it went on fine.

My dad has a load of Autoglym and Mercedes products that he doesn't use (he doesn't see it as important). If he has AG Extra Gloss Protection I may swap it him from my TurtleWax Ice Synthetic Polish which I don't use anymore - because that won't take him long but will still make his car look better and get some protection. The EGP may not be quite as good as the C2 or Werkstat, although it still gets quite a bit of praise on DW - although I think there is some snobbery against AG on the DW site (other than SRP).

I wish my RCZ looked as clean as your does. It's really starting to bother me now that Pearl is so dirty but with the snow and ice still around I can't clean her yet........!

I'm not sure that its snobbery against Autoglym on DW, its just that there are sooooooo many different products around now, people want to try all the others - not just what's available in Halfords - well that's the truth in my case! Once you've tried lots of different products, you get to know what works well and what doesn't - but that's all part of the fun of detailing :D

Hope you are soon feeling better
