Jassy, from what I understand there are no fees incurred however Sales that use the gift option are not protected under PayPal's rules. Trying to save a few pounds may cost you far more money.

Jassy i use Paypal almost everyday,
Rcz is correct, you will not incure any fees, and you will not be protected under their insurance scheme, however it is usually the buyer that needs to be covered, in case they pay you for something that is :
A is crap or B you never send.

I have sold many items and have had the payment sent as a gift, if you then send off the item just make sure you post by recorded delivery or if it really expensive use special delivery. That way the buyer cannot say you never sent it.

Ps, the buyer is not covered either if they send you a gift because inreality they have not purchased anything from you, they have just sent you a "gift".
So i would accept the gift offer but make sure you protect yourself with a recorded or special delivery postage, better still have the person collect in person and get them to sign a receipt.

Yeah Bee,
I'm gutted, i can honestly say up until today my RCZ has not got a blemish on it :(

There are a couple of very good wheel refurbishers in Swansea, one of them i have used in the past and i think he does diamond cut wheels like the Solstice, so fingers crossed :eusa-think:

Completely agree with jactac's comments. If you're selling the item and they want to pay as paypal gift (aka PPG) then its better for you fee wise and worse for them as they lose a bit of protection. As long as you follow jactac's advice about sending via recorded/special I would have thought you be fine. Don't forget there is an insurance limit on the post office services so make sure you up it to the full amount so you're not caught out and there is an upper on this too which may mean parcelforce.

I've sold (and bought) loads of things on forums and its always been paypal gift so I think its pretty standard. Check out the for sale section on avforums its pretty much a requirement.

ps. sorry to hear about your alloy jactac

Jass,
you will be fine, as djf has said and like i do when selling, just cover yourself with the correct safe postage, and accept the payment as a gift

In fact, its the buyer that should go the other way and pay via the correct route and not offer as a gift. :eusa-think:

So heres a tip, if you're ever buying and paying through Paypal, always make payment as a normal Paypal payment, (your covered for any loses) but if you're selling it's better to accept payment as a gift, because theres no fees also the buyer is then not covered to to make a claim against loses, just make sure you post the item as recorded/special delivery

Cheers mate thats what i will do,I hope you get your lovely wheels sorted soon the sooner the better before they start gritting roads then corrosion could seep in :(

Just got the wheel back, i'm quite happy with it.
if you look very closely you can see that the repair has a slightly shiny finish to it, but the fella that done the repair said this would dull back a bit to match the rest of the wheel.

i'll get some pics on to show the result.
