There is some history on this, but I'll try to be brief.
- I had all plugs and coil packs changed a few months ago - reason was a failing coil pack on cylinder 2
Car ran well afterwards, but I have noticed what sounds like a blow on the exhaust, when it gets hot - mechanic can see nothing wrong.
- I had an engine warning light on a long run, and it went into limp home mode - didn't reset - diagnostics showed a misfire on cylinder 2
- mechanic found a bad connector in the loom to coil pack cylinder 2.
- it seemed to run ok, but engine warning light came on again after 30 minutes running.
- mechanic was stumped, but found slightly re-routing engine loom to improve the situation.
It runs better - only one warning light on a whole 500mile journey - fault didn't latch so not sure.
I'm really suspicious of the wiring loom now - I noticed in one other post someone had been told their wiring needed replacing. Could it be insulation breakdown or bad connectors? Is this a known problem?
Generally though the car feels that it has to be driven - it doesn't like idling at constant throttle. If I ease off the throttle, it feels like there is a "shunt" in the engine. Picking up power again is not smooth. Lower gears tend to not pick up power quickly (engine misfires or coughs).
Only other data point is the car seems to use a lot of petrol around town and the exhaust pipes look sooty, so maybe I've running too rich?
I'm not looking for problems, but wonder if this is normal behaviour? (I've only ever driven this one RCZ, so I don't know how others behave)
Have seen elsewhere people suggesting cleaning sensors as well as possible HP fuel pump issues.
I still get the grumbling exhaust blow when warm, although I'm pretty certain this is a misfire, and I only hear it on pick up of power.
Any thoughts on a direction to take? I could certainly be persuaded that the sensors being dirty might cause this?
