Engine noise?

Sounds the same not all the time though. But a bit of a rattle when not full blown thrash.

Mine has sounded worse at times. Usually last for a couple of minutes from start up. Can also hear a back ground knocking noise a lot of the time, even when warm.
I'll be booking it in at the dealer's again. The software update didn't help. After I initially thought it had. I'll also be taking the extended warranty when offered.

Is the the Peugeot extended warranty or the dealers , bought my rcz from Perrys and got their extended 12 month warranty . When I popped in to book the car in the service admin I was dealing with said basically the warranty was erm not as good as the manufacturers original, so in her opinion the warrant off them would not cover the chain and tensioner!
She then realised a couple of weeks are left on the pg warranty but still didn't think it would be covered ?

It's Peugeot's but not a full warranty.
I've just extended mine for my HDi RCZ.
It's a mechanical and electrical warranty ie no bodywork or trim eg seat is not covered but movement or electrics are.
This is also the type of warranty by most other suppliers.

But £279 for Peugeot extended warranty plus £20 for AA cover (inc europe) plus £20 to upgrade AA cover for non car related faults eg punctures, keys etc.

If anyone has the standard AA cover then it's worth £20 IMHO for peace of mind that punctures are covered otherwise it's £120 per call out.
Standard cover can be upgraded just call the breakdown number and go through to customer services.

Does the AA cover include home start? I already have that for my wife's rcz & my Astra. Bought them both for £120 for the year. Prior to buying the rcz. The rcz's nanufacturers warranty runs out until Jan. Then we have pugs extended warranty until April. Will continue with that for £279 when it's due.
Hopefully manufacturers warranty will sort this he engine rattle.
Fit a new timing chain. I'll find out, once I get to book it in.

I started the rcz up again today, had been stood for a week, due to us going on holiday. Sounded like a bag of hammers for the first 30 seconds. Noise definitely coming from the timing chain end of the engine. Left hand side, if you were stood in front of the car looking towards the engine.
Going to book it in at the dealer's next week.

Tbh I can't remember but think it does.
It's basically the same as the AA cover that came with the car.

Started the car this morning, sane outside temperature from cold, was quite. Weird. Defiantly intermittent.
If it was the cam chain. How could it be quite one day, sound like a bag of hammers the next? Thought it would be there from every cold start.

I've not recorded it at its worst yet. I'm going to record it every start, until I get a really bad one. Then have something to show the dealer. Keep us posted to what the dealer says. I seem to suffer from a group of noisy starts over a few days. Then seems to be quite for a few days.

Hi, it's possible that the tensioner isn't putting full tension on the chain one start up then has done its job the next! I believe its hydraulic powered so as the oil pressure builds up the better it works thus quieting down the chain. It's the tensioner that has been redesigned to sort this problem.

Neilgsxr69,
I thought the mk2's were revised? At it's worst, it's more of a tapping type noise, than a rattle.
Thanks.

Never heard it officially probably because Peugeot won't admit that there was a problem with the tensioner in the first place so not sure when the new tensioner made it to production cars but I haven't heard of anyone having that problem in a MK2 car.

Apart from me lol.
I'll try post another video if I catch it at its worst. Being my wife's motor, not always there at the time of a cold start. Sometimes the car can be left for 4 hours. Restarted then sounds like a tractor again for around 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
I have heard a similar type noise from a cold start on other petrol engines. This was on a vauxhall 1.8 or 1.6vvt engine though. Due to a failed camshaft inlet phasing pulley. Fairly common with the 1.8vvt engines. Solution, change pulley with new timing belt. These sound like a diesel from a cold start too.

Update.
The car is going into the dealer's on Thurs for up to 4 days. Hopefully they'll find the fault.
