engine fault

Hi... I am joining the club of faulty high pressure fuel pump I am afraid. Picked my car up 29th April this year as a 61 plate and 1 previous owner. Already had error 3 error codes and RAC recovery and the dealer having replaced turbo and cooling pump and other 'bits' relating to turbo. That was after having the car for only 8 days. It has 23k on the clock and fully serviced etc. still under warranty.
That got fixed.

Yesterday engine fault came on after spluttering and limp mode. Rough as a bag of nails. Pulled over... Turned off engine . Tried ignition and fault light on but sounded OK. Still limp mode. I was close to my place of work so left RCZ overnight as dealer shut.
At dealer today via RAC - lovely guy by the way so thank you Chris for assisting me in my distress - error code P0087.
Now having new high pressure fuel pump fitted Monday. Again under warranty. Hopefully that will be it! Fingers crossed

I have had the car since 29th April and only driven for a total of 16 days... It's spent most of the time on the back of tow truck and in the garage for repair than on the tar mac!

Sorry to say that I've experienced all these problems and more. I collected my rcz in November and it's been in the garage at peogeot more than I've had it on the road !
Very disappointing. Spoilt the pleasure of owning such a lovely car
As we speak Peugeot have it and say it's going to be there another week or so So that's 4 weeks for This latest problem

Sell the car if don't want go to the garage offen with fault codes. Bmw engines and peugeot garage are for shit man.. i have rcz 200 thp two moths i have problem with the power and the response of the engine .. they can't find what is going on because no light turn on to help them... I tell them to change all the fault parts that thp engines have... I pay for that 2000 euros repairs.. the car still have the same issue
the car is 6 months old and has only 10500 khm on.. imagine this car after 2 years how many problem will have...
i need also new fold mirrors because they make the famous noice, and i need new door rubber because water gets in when rain...
the front brakes need change because the make noise all day and the disk thinkness pass the limit
I have a spider inside my left headlight
do you want to continue tell you problems?

If the garage doesn't have a clue then you need to get in contact with Peugeot head office and find an alternative garage.

The engine design in Pugs, Citreons and BMW's are now a decade old. The problems have been well documented and - regardless of what some mechanics will have you believe - its not rocket science.

Anyone who knows about their car will be able to diagnose the issue with a few cheap tools from the internet so for a garage to suggest they dont know is disgracful. Unfortunately, Peugeot don't exactly seem to be a very high paying garage and as such there are not many "Good" technicians out there.

Many are old skool and have not kept up to date with the introduction of Direct Injection petrol engines etc so are woefully under qualified to diagnose even the most simple problems.

The sad thing is that when a problem is left it often gets worse. I have dealt with incompetent Peugeot Approved mechanics and I've also dealt with really good ones too. They are out there!

But if nothing is said to the head offices then they will never get the training they need so others will suffer the same.

It might seem like a hassle but it effects the current owners too. A shoddy service network WILL lower the residuals of your car. Especially if the garage has a bad rep and is the only one for miles around.

Hi
I am having the same problem started with the tick over realy low i thought the car was going to cut out all together.
So after reading some topics on the forums i changed the spark plugs and coil packs. All was ok car running fine for aprox six weeks, then again warning light then into limp mode i drove for about a mile stopped started the car again and the power was restored but warning light still on.

That was when the problems realy started took car to dealer in aberdeen.
Explaind car was in limp mode could they have a look explained i had a years waranty from the garage i bought the car from. The secetery said you did not purchase the car from us. No. Well we wont be able to look at it today can you leave it and i will try and get someone to look at it tomorrow.
i said that will be fine thanks would you by any chance have a replacment car. No sorry they are all out but i will get someone to drive you home. ok thanks.
So next day i called just after 9AM could not get through to the service department as usual so i asked the person answering the phone to pass on a measage to the service team, that they can eliminate the spark plugs and coil pack as i have just replaced them, ok i will pass that on for you.
Then late that afternoon i get a call from the sevice receptionist. Hi we have looked at your car and we have diagnosed that you need to replace the coil packs. I said can i just stop you did you not get the measage i left to you this morning telling you i have already replaced the coil packs and spark plugs just a few weeks ago. No she says i did get a call saying you had phoned thought you were just checking on the progress i said at 9 15 am.
The reply was if you are replacing with inferior parts they will fail. I told her i purchased the parts from your service dept So i dont think they will fail and that diagnoses must be wrong. I think you have just wasted a compleat day by not getting that measage.
Ok she says our master tech is on holiday till thur i will get him to look at it and see what he says ok no probs since you will have my car till at least thursday would i be able to get a replacment car. No they are all out. we will see what the master tech says then i might be able to give you a car .
So on the wed i get a call late afternoon again she says the master tech came back from hols today and he has looked at your car and he says it will need a compleate de coke of the engine but your waranty will not cover that i have all ready asked them and they said they would not cover this.
So i said the car has only 40k on the clock i dont think it will need a de coke 100,4000 may be. she says that is what you need to do and quotes me a price well in exsess of a thousand pound.
I said no way am i paying for that i will come and get the car.
So when i get the to her desk i ask how did you diagnose that i needed a coil pack she says that was the code that came up at the time the code has been reset and the warning light has gone off and no more fault codes have came up.
So how did the master tech diagnose it needed a de coke if no fault codes are showing up now.
Her answer was he read it on the peugeot forums.
i asked could i speak to your so called master tech.
No was the reply he has gone home early.
So he came back from his hols a day early then away home early . Is that right

Have lost faith in that dealer will be looking for another any recomendations would be most welcome.

PS still got charged £108 for them giving me the wrong diagnoses
pps Car has been has been ok since the warning light has been put out but for how long.

Had same problem with my RCZ. Marshalls Peugeot in Cambridge replaced the fuel pump and the feed pipes to the turbo, as the turbo was ok. Not a single problem after that. Had the belt problem after with the DS3, using the same THP engine. Citroen from Hitchin spotted the problem, as Marshalls Citroen was adamant that it was characteristic of the engine. In less than a minute the service manager identified the problem and after a week in the car was sorted. Good thing is as the engine was used for Mini, Citroen and Peugeot, there's a range of garages able to sort this out. I would go to the ones owned by Peugeot.

The problem with main dealers is that they have a set check list & a rigid list of recommended solutions.

It's almost not their fault, as they probably have to adhere to this as part of the franchise conditions. Having said that, if they had a mechanic worth half his wage, he would be able to see what the probable fault was, regardless of what his checklist was telling him.

Non franchise garages don't have to stick to such an inflexible regime, so they can skip more directly to the actual fault instead of having to eliminate every other possibility before actually repairing the car.
