Greetings,

I am in need of some advice.

While driving in France, my RCZ-R 270 bhp, 2015, conked out. There was a sudden loss of power, but no noise, and when I pulled off the road, there was a lot of oil under the car. A diagnosis by a (French) Peugeot garage, found there was a hole in the sump that they thought had to have been caused by an internal issue, e.g. the con-rod somehow breaking free and doing the damage.

It's a weird one. The car only had 53,000 miles on the clock, was regularly serviced, no problem lights had come on; it was driving beautifully. I am heartbroken, because this was my favourite car from 50 years of driving and the risk is that repairs will cost more than its value. So, my questions:

Has anyone heard of such an occurrence with this engine? If I get the car brought back to the UK, can anyone give me an idea as to the cost of a second-hand/re-condiitoned engine and the labour involved in fitting it? When sourcing such an engine, can one know the mileage/age of it?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thats awful news.
The prince engines in 156 and 200 format with sensible mileage and any kind of mileage guarantee seem to be hard enough to track down and they were more common. I only know because I have been keeping my eye out for a decent 156 to put away should I end up in that boat for either my RCZ or 308CC. Couple of years ago I drove them hard but more lately they are treated softly softly and serviced every 6k.
I hope you ever success tracking down a good used engine.

PS you might have better luck getting an engine in France as there were probably more R’s kept there than came to UK.

Rare indeed but lubrication issues are critical in these engines if not serviced correctly but with such low mileage its very strange & a con rod will usually only go through the side of the block as the crankshaft will stop the piston reaching the sump I don't know if you bought it new but I would be suspicious of the mechanics on that engine having some suspect work done at some stage ?
If you source a new engine if the old one is irreparable then look for the age of the vehicle & importantly the mileage a good breakers/supplier will offer a warranty on engines they supply so go for that option
Good Luck

Someone else on here had a engine replacement for an R. Do a search and it should come up, but I remember it was quite expensive approx £8k.
It is really unlucky with your R. I had an issue with mine (also an R) a while ago where the bolts on the engine came loose and dumped oil all over my drive, luckily after taking it to the garage it was sorted and no damage was caused.
