Hi all, I've just taken delivery of a 2011 (1.6T auto, non-satnav) which I've posted about in the 'Newbies' section however, after a few days of travelling I now have some interesting quirks show up and wondered if they are common or not.
So we took this on a 10hr round trip and two strange things occured;
So we took this on a 10hr round trip and two strange things occured;
- Going about 100kph (62mph) and the drivers side front tyre hit a bit of a pothole in the road that I didn't see (was raining at the time) and it gave a good thud. I was listening to music at the time and when I hit the pothole, the force stopped the speakers on the drivers side working (loose wiring somewhere?). Later on after stopping and driving off, the speakers were all working again.
- This is the more worrying issue, driving along the highway nice and easy, suddenly I get a notification that there is a problem with the charging system (can't recall exact wording, it only happened that one time).
I assume it means the alternator isn't doing its job. However, the service book came with receipts of mechanical work done and one of those was for a NEW alternator (was installed about 10,000km earlier) and on the worksheet, the problem that required the new alternator was 'alternator wasn't charging at times'.
So it seems to me that its actually an issue with wiring somewhere, and that the alternator didn't need to be replaced at all. Out of around 10hrs total driving, I only got the warning come up once though.
