Eco mode

Hi,
is there anyway of turning off "Eco Mode". i'm finding that it kicks in after 30 mins (max it can be set to) then you have to restart the car and run it for a min of 10 minutes, it's a bit of a pain if your trying to copy cd's onto "jukebox". i'm guessing this will happen if you are watching a DVD also ?

Then again how many times do you copy a load of cd's in one go ? But it would still be useful if there is an option to turn it off.

Also does the fan run on after every journey ?

my eco mode appears to kick in after 10 minutes, a pain when just parked up with the radio on. my fan does not run on after a journey, maybe it a sensitive fan sensor. or could be slightly overheating.ie faulty stat.

I've found the eco mode kicks in depending on how long the engine has been run for. If it's been sat for a while and you put the radio / ipod on it will only play for about 10 minutes but if you have been driving the car for a bit and then stop and put the radio / ipod on it will run for longer but I think the longest has been 30 minutes. I suppose it's to stop it draining your battery.

The fan does run on sometimes after stopping. Just part of the process of cooling down the engine I suppose, especially in warmer weather.

Nothing to be worried about.

Hi bee,

Jactacs rcz is a petrol,

The diesel is different to the petrol. In the current warmish weather the fan on petrol cars will often be on after a journey,

My 200 is exactly the same which took a bit of getting used to after doing nearly 20k in my two diesels!

It's not a problem, i just wandered if it should run on every time, it goes off after a few mins, the temps are fine, it is no where near the red, in fact driving home from Milton Keynes for 4 hours and the gauge stayed in the same place all the way home , dead center of the dial, and it's the same driving around town.

I had a Scirroco a few years ago and that was the same.

As for the Eco thing, the longest it can be set to is 30 mins, but i was wandering if it can be turned off altogether ? How do you watch a dvd ? would you need to restart the engine every 30 mins ?

On that point of dvd's, i've been playing around with my new toy all day, trying out cd's, dvd's, sat nav and so on, well anyway, my son tried a music cd that had a part video sequence on it , only about 2 mins but it played the video seguence as we were driving ? So when we got home i tried a dvd with the engine running but as expected it would not run, strange why the music video played though ?

Once i'm settled with everything and got a good feel for the car i will type up my opinions, at the moment i'm looking for any excuse to go out and drive it.

I've had some lovely looking cars over the years, but nothing attracts attention like this.
I'm still waiting for this lovely Welsh weather to break so that i can i give it a wash and get some pics up.

marcus i totaly agree with you. i had a 308cc and it ran on sometimes. I once had a problem with the fan running contiuous
and the dealer found that the oil filler cap was not screwed down fully. the computer was trying to rectify this.lesson learnt

jactac,

going back to your original post, wouldn't it be easier ripping all your CDs to mp3 using your computer and then popping them on a USB stick to copy them at your leisure? They will be copied in the background as you drive along, and the copy will pause and resume if you turn the engine off before it's all finished.

Put the music CD into your PC and look at the files. You will find the music video was a different file format (perhaps an MP4 file) and was played as an audio file with video. The DVD is a different format. Perhaps you can convert your DVDs to the same file format as the music video to fool the system into playing them.

As for the fan running, it's currently about 20 degrees C here in Sydney during the day and my fan runs on when I stop the engine. I've had a few cars where that has happened and as it gets pretty warm here in Summer I've always considered it to be quite a normal thing.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Joske, yeah i'm not worried about the fan issue, just thought i should ask. :eusa-think:

Eyetiepie, that is exactly what my son suggested, i'm not to techy when it comes to transfering files or copying stuff on the computer, He (son) said i could copy cd's to sd card or usb stick then like you said transfer to the car , easy peasy,

RCzoom, again this is what my young brood suggested, trick the system into thinking it's a cd. In fact he reckons it's totaly possible but the images may play back as a smaller video, It's all down to the data transfer being read differently, at least thats what i think he said, he's a 19 yearold IT student, who normaly just grunts.

Thing is i'm typing here with one finger, i cant upload pics without help, and i wouldnt know a jpeg from a clothes peg

The eco mode will only run for a max of 30 mins, after a long journey .

Its basically double the time so 15 mins running engine 30 mins with engine off.

But if the the battery is any lower than 75% full, the car will automatically go into eco mode.

Its just so the battery has enough to get going next time, and the voltage doesn't drop to low on start-up.
