I realise that the RCZ is getting on a bit so there’s a relatively niche market for the following. I also realise that those RCZ owners who either have installed or who are thinking about installing an Ebilaen MMI box to achieve Android Auto functionality while retaining the car's oem pop-up infotainment screen and steering wheel controls represent a smaller niche and those who do so and who choose to use the box to run Android Auto, as opposed to its Apple counterpart which the box is also capable of doing, are members of an even smaller niche but those in this esteemed and elite group may find the User Guide useful.

I developed the user guide because the user documentation for the unit is next to useless and in my case was not even included with the unit I purchased on AliExpress. And while there are numerous videos on UTube and the Web most focus on installing the unit in BMW'S, Minis and some Peugeot models with touch screen infotainment systems and regardless they do not focus on how to use the interface once the unit has been successfully installed. And using it is not as straightforward as it should be!

Best of luck!

EBILAEN RT6/RNEG2 Android Auto Interface User Guide
Peugeot RCZ Owner's Operating Guide (Draft Version 1.0)
Introduction
This guide has been prepared by a Peugeot RCZ owner to supplement the limited operating instructions supplied with the EBILAEN RT6/RNEG2 Android Auto interface.
It is based on practical experience with a professionally installed EBILAEN unit fitted to a 2013 Australian-delivered Peugeot RCZ equipped with the factory RT6 (RNEG2) infotainment system, non-touch, retractable display and non-JBL audio system.
The guide concentrates on operating the system rather than its installation and focuses on Waze, it being the primary Android Auto application of interest to the writer/user and his Android Auto default display application.

This guide focuses on moving the cursor both within Waze and moving the cursor to the Android Auto taskbar to, for example, activate the phone or Gemini.

It should be noted that the cursor may function differently in other applications.

After the car's engine has been switched off, say overnight, after powering up again, when the pop-up screen raises and provided your enabled phone is in range, Android Auto will automatically start and the last screen used before switching off will be displayed. This can be a very useful feature and not one replicated in most more recent cars.

Controller Overview
The supplied EBILAEN controller comprises:
Rotary push-button controller.
HOME button.
BACK button.
<< (Previous) button.
>> (Next) button.
The factory Peugeot SOURCE button located on the audio control stalk behind the steering wheel also interacts with the Android Auto interface.

Cursor Navigation
This system's Android Auto interface operates with three distinct cursor focus levels, meaning that the cursor can only be scrolled using the rotary push button controller within its current focus level. It cannot be moved to another level by use of the rotary push button controller. So in summary, you cannot scroll the cursor from the topmost icon on a screen or the very last icon on the bottom of the screen as you would on a phone or tablet. And of course the RCZ's screen is not a touch screen so some intervention is required to move the cursor from one level to another.

The focus levels are:
  1. Waze (or application) menu controls, search or input an address, turn by turn instructions, zoom in and out and to report a traffic issue.
  2. Android Auto taskbar which contains icons for shortcuts to the split screen icon, phone, music, the microphone to activate voice commands and other apps.
  3. Android Auto application launcher which includes icons for all the applications available to you in Android Auto, Waze, Weather, Spotify, phone, Messages and whatever other Android Auto compatible apps you have selected to be available in the launcher.
Understanding how to move between these focus levels is the key to operating the system efficiently.

Moving from the "Drive Now" Screen to the Waze Menu
When Waze first opens, the cursor defaults to the "Drive Now" list.
To move the cursor to the Waze application menu:
  1. Press the HOME button on the EBILAEN controller.
  2. Cursor focus transfers to the Waze menu controls.
  3. Rotate the controller knob to navigate between the Waze menu items.
  4. Press the knob to select the required item.

Moving from the Waze Menu to the Android Auto Taskbar
This procedure, as inelegant as it is, has been tested repeatedly and found to operate consistently.
  1. Press and hold the controller knob for approximately two to three seconds.
  2. Gemini voice assistant will activate.
  3. Wait approximately one second.
  4. Briefly press the controller knob again, once.
  5. Gemini closes and
  6. Cursor focus transfers to the Android Auto taskbar, initially highlighting the Split Screen icon.
  7. Rotate the controller knob to move between Android Auto taskbar icons.
Alternative Method Using the Factory SOURCE Button
The Peugeot SOURCE button on the steering-column audio control stalk performs the same function.
  1. Press and hold the SOURCE button for approximately two to three seconds.
  2. Gemini activates.
  3. Wait approximately one second.
  4. Press the SOURCE button once.
  5. Gemini closes.
  6. Cursor focus transfers to the Android Auto taskbar.
The knurled wheel on the factory stalk can also be used to scroll through the active menu level icons.

Returning to the Android Auto Application Launcher
From the Android Auto taskbar:
  1. Select the Split Screen icon.
  2. The icon changes to the Application Grid (dot matrix) icon.
  3. Select the Application Grid icon.
  4. The Android Auto application launcher is displayed.
  5. Select Waze (or any other application).
Selecting Waze from the launcher returns the cursor to the default "Drive Now" list position.

Reverse Camera Operation
Selecting reverse gear automatically switches the display to the rear camera feed.
The factory parking sensor display remains integrated with the camera image and a miniature vehicle graphic is overplayed in the upper-right corner of the camera display, with yellow and red proximity indicators providing the normal factory parking sensor warnings.
This integration preserves the original Peugeot parking assistance while adding the aftermarket camera image.

Known Operating Quirks
The Waze "Drive Now" panel occupies valuable map space on the RCZ's relatively small display screen but clicking on the X at top right will not close the panel.

The Drive Now panel can be replaced with a similar size display which indicates the current music app in use and in some cases the current song. This panel can also not be closed.

However, occasionally it has been observed that both panels have disappeared, resulting in a significantly larger map display.

At the time of writing, the sequence required to reproduce this behaviour consistently has not been identified.

Further investigation is continuing.

Notes
This guide reflects observed behaviour of one EBILAEN RT6/RNEG2 interface purchased from the Official EBILAEN Store on AliExpress in June 2026 and installed in a 2013 Peugeot RCZ Mk2.

Other firmware versions may behave differently.

Owners are encouraged to contribute additional verified operating procedures so this guide can be expanded and improved.
