Dummy's Guide to SatNav Upgrades

A

Anonymous

Guest
Just a thought as there are lots and lots of threads regarding the upgrading of the satnav.

Would it be possible for someone who has done it successfully to post a step by step guide that we can sticky?

A first stop thread for anyone wanting to upgrade without delving in too deep.

When I had my SATNAV replaced under warranty I lost speed camera details and I would like it back.

For the RT6 see post http://www.peugeotrczforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8219&start=20#p104015

It's as simple as sliding a cd in for firmware update disc and camera update disc, to update maps insert the usb stick, map time updates on above link (have to do one at a time).

Read full post as more details are at the end of the post.

I have firmware update disc and camera update disc. If you want me to send these out please pm me your address details.

The following is a post by Northernlanes:-

"Ok guys, its done .. and with success !

I downloaded the .iso file from GpsUnderground link on this page ... http://gpsunderground.com/forum/peugeot ... nside.html , I can confirm that this file 140507_1353.ISO is product number 9691737180 (cd #8784) and is suitable to upgrade a RT6 to software version 2.80, in my case I went from RNEG 2.75.C.5 to RNEG 2.80.E.2 the same as Tianorth (see his screenshots earlier in this thread, but check your car/sat nav model number and current software version before proceeding ! )

I had already updated my UK mapping to the latest version 2014.1 using downloads from GpsUnderground using the MEGA link in this page .. http://gpsunderground.com/forum/peugeot ... nside.html and also the Speed Camera database (Alert Zones and Risk Areas) via the link on the same page, these I installed (seperately) via a 4Gb USB stick that I saved the files to, be sure to first run RT6_Mirascript v01.03 found on this page .. http://mira308sw.altervista.org/en/ (you only need to use the RT6_SETTING.CMD to alter the setting of DRM from 1 to 0, this is to get around the Activation request issue .. ie: you will not now be asked for it anymore !) , I suggest you read up on using Mirascript to familiarise yourself on its use before attempting).

As far as updating to v2.80, burn the .ISO file to a cd (I used Imgburn which is available free online .. http://www.imgburn.com/ ), run your car engine and do not turn it off until the process is finished (approx 40 minutes), turn on the RT6 radio/sat nav, select radio, press mode switch until there is no sat nav info on the display then power off the radio (via the 'power' button, now insert the disc.
It will first 'error check' the cd then ask if you want to update, answer Yes ... as I said it takes in total just under 40 minutes, will initially reboot, load in several small files then one very large one, followed by more small files then another very large file, a final reboot and then it is done, at this stage it will have recognised your cd again and will do another error check, when done .. this time answer No to the update and eject the disc .. Job done !

I can confirm that I now have full 7 digit UK postcode ability !!"

I followed the above, and I now have all the lates maps, and 7 digit postcode search. (I did get the software update disc from Tianorth prior to reading the above) - Thanks again Chris.

DKZ5745 the 2 links at the top of your post return "page not found".
Can you update to include full web address please.

A little confused with your quote
"be sure to first run RT6_Mirascript v01.03 found on this page .. http://mira308sw.altervista.org/en/ (you only need to use the RT6_SETTING.CMD to alter the setting of DRM from 1 to 0, this is to get around the Activation request issue .. ie: you will not now be asked for it anymore !) ,"
Does this "RT6_SETTING.CMD" have to be copied to the flash drive, or put on to a flash drive then used first in the car then update, or something else?

The link tianorth included is the easiest and safest way to do the upgrade.

While there is no doubt that the use of code and maps from gpsunderground is do-able , it comes with risks associated (since the data is ripped/hacked).
At least with the official CDs you are less likely to c*ck it up.

The OP asked for a simple step by step guide, after all.

Peace.

Second corrected link is http://gpsunderground.com/forum/peugeot ... nside.html

As for the question regarding mirascript, if you load that program from the link Onto a usb stick, shove it in the Z and the RT6 loads it. You then scroll down to the RT6 setting.cmd and then scroll to DRM and change it from 1 to 0 your RT6 will never again require activation of any new maps.

BUT, I am quite sure that if you play around with any of the other settings available you could quite easily "brick" your RT6
Having said that, my experience of updating all my maps & getting 7 digit postcodes was not really a very worrying one. I found it quite simple, by just changing the setting mentioned, and only that setting.

I do take Staggers point though, the simple way is to buy all the relevant CD's. The only reason I copied the old post was because its the only free way of doing it I know of, and , to be honest, if I can do it that way, anybody can
