Re: The Banter Thread

Well I love all those films the harry potter are to replace the first ones I had on DVD LOTR the whole trilogy brilliant though the last one went on a bit at the end farewell frodo scene.

The Hobbit not seen yet but not sure how they will stretch it into a trilogy as for prequels the new version of The Thing is really good as was x-men first class.

The DA polisher though I'm excited to get it I'm a little nervous about trying it out ......excited but apprehensive :)

Chemical Guys Hexlogic Pads are the best I've tried and last for quite a while. I use mine with Meguiars 205 and 105 polishes.

Do you have a paint depth gauge? I am going to get a DA at some point but have kind decided not to bother with the guage...they're just to pricey for me to justify when I have had the car from new. I figure that if you approach the paint as soft paint then you shouldn't go too far wrong.

Your right to a degree Mr Rizz but even a new car can have very low readings. It's always better to be safe than sorry. You need to know exactly what you are playing with. If necessary you can borrow mine, same goes to Gadget :)

Might be interesting if you bring the gauge to the Yorkshire meet and compare all the cars paint depths.

I certainly would be interested in the results.

So what size do I buy? Or do you buy them with the backing plate?

You what ? Never heard of that before ;)

Yes I will bring it to the Yorkshire Meet. I also have a print out for a RCZ so can mark measurements onto the RCZ printed on it.

Your DA should have come with a 6" backing plate. For the Hexlogic pads you need 5.5" pads but you will also need a selection of the smaller pads for working smaller areas. Beware when using the smaller pads as this works in a more intense way and generates more heat. All the pads are in this link.
You will also need a smaller backing plate for the smaller pads too.

The link below shows what each pad should be used for and correction level.

A little research and I found out what cruise control on a DA polisher is

Cruise Control - a pressure sensitive switch which increases or decreases torque to maintain rotation speed when put under pressure by the user.

Can I use the DA on the RCZ roof ? And what about the stripe decals will they lift when I use it?

I don't know about the roof but I would imagine that it'd be fine as long as you are careful. The decals however are a no no. You need to tape them off from what I read and hand polish them only.

Mr Rizz is right. Don't DA the stripes, you'll end up removing them! The heat build up will start to lift them.

You can certainly use the DA on the roof without any problem. Just remember start off with your least aggressive polish and pad and see how that goes, then try same polish but the next cutting pad up, etc.

Black pad is a finishing pad so won't cut much. Try it and if it doesn't remove any scratches then try the white pad or green pad.

Sorry, I didn't mean scratches. Don't you have some swirls on your roof? It marks very easily and show when the sun shines on them.
