Now, I want to keep up the SA459 on my RCZ, so does anyone know how to spray into the intake manifold on a THP200. With the 207cc Sport I use the rear right vacuum hose that leaves the cam cover and empties into the intake body, but with the THP200 engine the hose has been removed.

So this is what I'll be doing.

Temporarily remove the turbo pressure sensor, which is on the end top of the post intercooler intake pipe.

So I'll be spraying SA459 in there while the engine is running. Plan is to spray half the can while engine running. Wait 15 minutes and then start engine and spray the remaining SA459 through. Wait another 15 minutes, start engine, blow the crud out (usually a lot of white smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe). Then change the oil.

I'll update when I do it when my RCZ arrives.

This is how it was done to my R. You need to have a distance from the actual turbo charger. Never spray on the turbo inlet directly!

I cleaned myself the inlet valves on my 207cc Sport (THP150).

It took me six hours to do a 85% clean. Noticeable difference, and I've been using Subaru SA459 for years now, with no issues what so ever.

I'll do as planned by spraying SA459 into the post intercooler pipe. And I will provide results.

The RCZ may chuck a code, but I've got my cheapie Chinese diag tool to reset codes.

Re intercooler: I replaced the 207cc's intercooler at 100,000 kilometres. There was about 100 mill of oil crap that came out of the old one. Was it worth changing?

Into the post-intercooler pipe? Have fun! You will run into troubles with pressure differences. Let's see if the engine runs properly.

If you instead spray it into the inlet pipe, as it was done with my car, then the whole intake system, including the intercooler is being treated. As a process it may take longer and at the end use up more of the cleaning solvent but you clean the whole intake part.
The session on my car took about 30 minutes.

I'll crack a code, but I have done this procedure with a THP150 and have mastered it. I'll reset the code and take it to 6,000 rpm.

OK, car serviced today for it's first time, with me. Arrived today. I did the service.

See thread in General.

Post intercooler pipe? I did it. (drum roll).

Removed the sensor located there. After 40,000 klicks it was OK, but I cleaned it with CRC Contact Cleaner spray. That's what they do in professional service places.

OK - started the THP200 and started to spray into hole left by sensor. Engine became cranky and attempted to stall. So I reduced the pressure from the can and it grumbled away happily? In the dealerships, another person is keeping revs at 2,500.

Emptied half can and let it sit for ten minutes. Started with effort, and continued to spray the remains of the can. Grumbly, spluttery Prince engine.

Left alone for ten minutes, while I changed the air (K&N) and pollen filter.

Replaced post intercooler sensor and started engine. Cranked over for a moment and barked into life. I revved the engine and white smoke erupted from the exhaust and settled down. Ha, I thought. SA459 has done it's job. :beer:

Got a red engine fault light up on the dials, as I expected. So got my diagnosis tool and found two codes. P this, and P that.
At this time with my experience using SA459, I didn't record them this time. Anyhow, I reset the codes to zero, and wahoo the engine kicked into life with no red engine light.

Took it for a spin down a winding road and dragged off a Toyota for fun. 6,000 rpm.

No problems and I know it did it's work.

SA459 recommended.

Trivia:

Subi engines (boxer) are prone for sludge, so they created this product for their engines. But as mechanics move from shop to shop, the secrets of SA459 are told in Oz.

G'day cobber !

We all know the prince engine can suffer from carbon build up and various fixes have been tried, including the walnut shell therapy !!

Some of these are quite expensive, in fact I think most are.

I try to use shell V - Power which is around 98 octane, though when I drive on the European continent, I do treat her to some 100 / 102 octane super fuel - certainly goes after that!

Yes and that's correct 1.779 euro per litre !!

anyway I digress... So it would be interesting to see if this SA459 treatment does any good, as I for one will start to adopt this process when oil changes are due, if I do one at 5,000 miles this is more or less a year anyway, and even if it's £20 a tin, it could be well worth it and may cut out the need for a £400 walnut blast !

I use BP Ultimate 98 RON for all my cars.

However it does not wash over the intake valves as the Prince engine being direct injection.

I am a fanatic for oil changes. Do one every 5,000 kilometres and every other 5,000 oil filter and SA459.

I have been using it for five years on my THP150 207 cc, and have never had an issue. Engine running strong and happy.

Follow my instructions and you will reap the benefits.

OK. See pic below of a Mini THP150. The bottom right pointer of the circle shows the old vacuum hose. That is where I spray SAS459 into the 207 cc Sport THP150. However on the THP200 engine that vacuum hose has been deleted.

Now, under the circle is where the sensor is which I removed on the THP200. The hole left by the sensor removal is where you spray.

Go for it.

May '19 - 3,500 miles after last change - oil was replaced (no filter). Filter every 7,000 miles.

And again SA459 was used to clean the upper cylinder.

Made a small change in the process, this time.

Removed sensor and sprayed in about 1/5 can. Started engine and sprayed slowly on and off until 50% of can.

Did something else for 15 minutes. This instance got the chain-saw out and cut down a large black bamboo.

Started engine, noticed that engine warning light on, and sprayed in the remaining 50% of the can. It is interesting as you spray, the engine almost stalls, but then comes back and revs higher, so you spray more in and the process continues.

Did something else for 15 minutes. This instance stared the garden blower and blew leaves from deck, etc.

Started engine and for about two minutes revving to 3,000 and back, lots of white smoke from the exhaust. Settled down.

Got out my trustee diag tool and cleared fault codes.

Changed oil, and forking' burnt my arm on the exhaust pipe.

All done, took the RCZ for a spin. Up to 6,000 rpm 2nd gear and no smoke from the back.

All is well.
