DPF warning light

Hi all..

My DPF warning light is coming on, but only for a few seconds when I start the engine.

The car is 2010 and has covered 38,000 miles, and drives perfectly.I have given it a couple of 40 mile runs at 70 plus to regenerate the DPF, but the light still comes on for a few seconds.

Should the light be permanently illuminated if there is a problem ?

I can't find any posts that relate to how long the light should be illuminated.

Can anyone offer advice ?

I guess its a trip to Peugeot for a diagnostic test.

I would think that if the DPF light is going off after a few seconds that would be fine. Personally I wouldn't pay Peugeot around £100 to run the diagnostic test but you could always pop in and ask them if your light going off after a few seconds is normal. They should be able to answer that question easily enough. Cheers. Bruce.

I'm afraid you in the near future the lamp will keep on burning. The presure is building up in your DPF and to much back pressure is very bad for your engine. The higher back presure will cause your engine to produce more soot and this will increase the pressure even more.

Don't wait untill the lamp keeps on burning. You have the filter cleaned to reduce the repair cost but don't use additives to clean it.

I'd stay clear of a pug dealer with a car of your age & a dpf fault, go with an indy diesel specialist :thumbup: The stealers will have your eyes out.

couple of developments...

local independant diagnostic test gives error p1490 DPF OVERLOADED, so I'm sure its the DPF.

Local garage will remove DPF and send it away for cleaning then refit it - cost £500

There's a performance centre nearby that will clean the DPF without removing it using the Terraclean system - cost £225

Has anyone had experience of the Terraclean system ?...it's a big saving if it works.

If you're car has a lot of milage then Terraclean solution will not work and can even damage your DPF. Because the filter contains not only soot particles. Even if the filter has worked fine for many years sooner or later the filter will get blocked. This is because the DPF stop more then 100 different particles. Must of them are burned inside your DPF but some of them need very high temperatures to get burned, temperature you wiil never reach whilst driving your car.

The only right way to clean a DPF is to remove it from your exhaust and put the filter element in an oven to burn at very high temperature all the particles that are trapped inside. After this process they test your filter by doing a flow test to see if it's completly clean. Then they mount it back in your exhaust. It's relative big job to do.

So my advise don't take any short cuts. Half of the time treaments like don't work and cause even worse problems.
