Does anyone else have this problem?

I've mentioned in previous posts that I've got an ex-demonstrator in Dolphin Blue. In sunlight, the entire car is covered in swirl marks. Dealer took back car (approx 200 mile round trip). Had it for 11 days and delivered it back last Friday very early in the morning. I couldn't check it over as was just leaving for work and assumed all would be ok as had been assured their bodyshop were top notch. Told it had been mopped?? They said this moves the lacquer around removing the marks.

In the process of the dealership sorting it out, the dealer put in a warranty claim and someone from Peugeot visited AFTER remedial work was carried out and said the swirls in the paintwork are normal on RCZs :wtf:!! These swirls are large circles that also extend over the roof, chrome arches, lights and number plates. My argument is that if its purely a paint problem, how come the other areas of the car NOT painted have them? They just scratch their heads, say they don't know and keep repeating what this so say warranty idiot says about them being normal and he's told them he's got them on his car.

Anyway, certain bits of the car do now look better, but the entire driver's side is still covered. I don't know if they 'mopped' areas rather than the whole thing. A few hours after the car was delivered back last week, I noticed several silver paint marks on the front bumper (each around 1.5 inches diameter, spread over around a 5 inch area- at least they have admitted that's not normal  and will be remedied locally (hopefully).

Now you've read this far, could you please tell me if anyone has a similar problem? We are not talking small swirls here but, unless you look very closely in dull weather, they are difficult to see. Unfortunately, in bright or sunlight, you cannot miss them. The car looks like a hologram. They are saying there is very little else they can do apart from contacting Mr Warranty again who doesn't think its a problem in the first place. :x Thoughts, advice, in fact any comments good or bad, welcomed.
:)

This is very, very poor workmanship by their so called top notch bodyshop. When they say they have "mopped" it, they have used THE most aggressive polishing pad (in simple man terms) and the marks left are caused by not working the compound / polish fully, as to break it down. They could either have used a compound, which has a very high cut rate, but needs to be fully worked THEN followed by a polish to refine the finish, with a finishing pad (least aggresive polishing pad ie no cutting abilities). But in all probability they probably have not refined the finish and have just gone for the quickest option of "mopping".
It also sounds like they have done this all over the car parts that you have mentioned ie arches, roof, which should have been left alone.
This is not normal - no paint, should be full of swirls or holograms. They are most noticeable in sun, as the sun is catching the edges of the swirls, which would also make the paintwork look dull. Paint should reflect when prepared properly.

I would go back to the dealer and say you will get a professional detailer to put the car right and they will get the bill. Once this is done, then I would go back to the dealer and show them the car to point out that how it should look.

This really is very poor customer service.

I hope you get this sorted out very soon

Hi Jim

No LSP will stop swirls. If it is soft paint (and as I'm without my RCZ and not yet had chance to detail it), I can't say at the moment, then you are bound to get some swirls over time. You can try to be as careful as possible when washing and drying the car, using the correct products/cloths, etc in order to minimise this happening. If swirls do appear over time then an abrasive polish or one with fillers will remove them or hide them respectively.

The problem mentioned in the first post however should not have arisen and certainly should not be presented to the customer in the state that it is.

Thanks RCZ1. I think you are spot on with your advice and your description of the problem is exactly how the car appears in sun and shade.

I previously planned to let a local detailer sort it out but the dealer convinced me to let them do it, especially as there was a also a crease/dent underneath the rear passenger side window.

Crease/dent has now gone but most of the swirls remain, albeit some a little more muted. No more messing about with the dealer, I'm sorting it (I still have £300 they would quite like from me). I reckon I'm probably looking at a minimum of this to get it done properly and have the car looking like the one I'd thought I was buying. If it costs over that, the dealer will be getting the a bill for the extra as well.

Unfortunately, I'm away for almost three weeks from this week-end and haven't got time now to look in to getting it detailed until I return.

Until I joined this forum, I didn't have a clue what detailing was. It's mostly your posts that has given me the knowledge to investigate further.

I've been married for 28 years and a mum to two offspring but there are two women I could leave my husband for - Nicole Scherzinger and you, but only if you'd regularly clean my car. ;)

I know your thread / issue is not funny but god have I laughed
What can I say, to be even mentioned in the same breath as Nicole...................................... my husband thinks its hilarious :D

The average cost for a full correction detail is about £250 upwards, but rest assured, your car will look like the car it should of, when its finished.
I didn't know what detailing was until I stumbled upon it 3 years ago on the internet, since then, I've just put into practice what I've read and learnt what works and what doesn't and the correct processes to use.

I look forward to seeing some pics of it when it gets detailed - good luck and thanks.
