So, I thought I would put this out to the continually expanding panel of experts that is the forum......

I need all four corners sorting, some more than others.

Having searched for someone not too far away, as I would need a lift or taxi, and someone who could do the job pretty quickly as we only have the one car, I have found someone in the next village who can do the job and only need the car for 24 hours.

He has quoted £108 per wheel, but will do all four for £384 inc vat.

As I am also needing 2 tyres, if I supply them, he will fit them free as he will be removing all 4 tyres anyway, so that’s saving another £30

(its still going to cost @ £700 for 2 tyres & 4 wheels re-furb & I only paid £480 for my first car  )

What do we think to the price & deal? Your thoughts & comments welcome.

I did a lot of research on this very subject when I got my R wheels and £100 a wheel for diamond cut refurb is about the going rate (actually got some quotes at nearly twice that!) so if you trust him (i.e. seen his previous work on website, etc.) £384 for 4 ain't bad.

Alternatively you can get them refurbished and painted any flat colour you like for under £50 each...

I went to have a look at The wheel specialists in Garforth he quoted a similar price but that wasn’t for diamond cut but it was a drive in drive out service and I liked the look of their setup they do diamond cut so maybe worth a call as not too far from you Pete. I decided to put the money to new aftermarket alloys rather than have the originals refurbished

When I had mine diamond cut it cost around £100 a wheel. They had them 2 days too to do the full set.

That was last year. Now I’ve had the diamond cut removed and they are all one colour so will be cheaper to do in the future, should I need to.

The first guy I went to said he did diamond cut refurb, but when I went for him to have a look he said he could get them smoothed out & painted to look like alloy where the diamond cut is. He said I would be very pleased with the result & it was £50 per wheel.

I didn’t really like the sound of that to be honest.

Just have to try to convince the banker, sorry, meant my wife, that it’s a good idea to spend £700 on the car on something that she won’t even notice has been done. :eusa-think:

Then when that easy task has been done, :? I just have to find a couple of days when I don’t need the car & it fits in with when they can do it.

I got the 19" Style 12 alloys on my 508 GT refurbed (re cut, painted etc.) plus tyres at a place in Grimsby and it came to a very similar figure (I think £700ish all in) I opted for Nexen N8000, pretty decent for the price.

I also bought new centre caps. Which strangely, for 508 GT centre caps were quite dear. I found some "Peugeot accessory" ones that were loads cheaper and matched the wheels perfectly.

My GT86 has diamond cut alloys too, but having seen OEM wheels in solid colours, I think I'm going down that route.

First half of the job done, ordered the tyres from Black Circles, might have to wait until I get back from my Jollies to get the wheels sorted & tyres fitted. :eusa-think:

The alloy on the R wheels is fairly matte silver in colour it is not shiny like some other wheels on other vehicle's (is on mine, not seen any others in the flesh) I reckon a decent wheel or scuff specialist could sand, fill and colour match the rim to a high standard or even a bit of DIY if the scuffs are not really bad etc? Have heard diamond cut wheels can only be refurbed a few times before they need to be replaced or sprayed/coated?

Yes, I was told when I went for the quote that they couldn’t be re-cut again, they would have to be painted if I wanted them refurbishing again.

Makes sense really, you can only make the metal a certain thickness before it loses strength. :eusa-think:
