Sold my 1 1/2 year old GT Hdi 2 weeks ago and got £19100 private sale, its was fully specced but lost £10k.
Only sold as i get a new company car with my job and had to sell as no car allowance.
I didnt feel too bad about the price as i had given up my company car and took the allowance so at least i had some money back.

The couple who bought mine had looked at quite a few and it seemed my spec swayed it?

Its a niche market as you only have a certain type of buyer.

And luck mel.........Current stock and spec are a must, I got the ST just by sheer luck as it was in stock and has a 1 off spec..........In stock Higher specced cars are rarer unless they are a Demonstrator but even then, they have to be 4 months old before the dealership can move them on. These are the bargains to be had  you will always pay full price for a new built to order personally optioned car

If you wonder what profit webuyanycar make then read below:

Extract from 2011.

The owners of motors website webuyanycar.com were paid dividends worth £7.5m for 2011 – £1.5m more than the previous year

Turnover at the Rochdale-based company for the year to September 30, 2011 was £263.7m, down from £315m the year before.

Pre-tax profits also fell from £5m to £3.4m.

Research showed all the prices offered by Webuyanycar were well below the trade value of our cars – that’s the price you could expect to get selling it at auction. This is generally well below the amount you could expect from a high street dealer or in a private sale.

Regardless of how well looked after it has been, it is above all else a second hand car. I hate coming to terms with the fact tht athe care and attention I've always lavished on my cars is woth the square root of sod all.
If you don't want to be a victim of such depreciation then don't buy new. The car would have lost £3k driving it from the dealership to the first set of lights.
If you hadn't seen the prices you'd have been blissfully unware and still enjoying what is a great car. Keep it, use it, care for it. If you get rid now then you'll just be buying something lese and getting into the whole process again.

But do remember bluey that looking after your car has got you a better price. If the car didn't look cared for then you wouldn't get a good trade in price (it would be at the lower end of the scale) or people would be paying less if you sold it privately. It tends to be on older cars where you really notice the difference in values from a good example to a battered and bruised example.

I agree entirely. But it's still a harsh blow for people who have bought a brand new car and seen it lose 40% of it's value, heartbreaking.
I Have looked after all my cars over the years and do get a good price when selling. It attracts more buyers too. I live in Glasgow and have had buyers come from as far afield as Skye and Portsmouth to buy cars on the stregth of the pics they've seen.

Also think it's worth remembering that even if you were to buy a used car, get to the first set of lights and turn back and try to sell it back to the dealer, you'd have lost an easy 10 - 15% of what you'd just paid.

I do think that looking after your car pays dividends when you go to sell it on. Which would you buy? The one looking like it's been neglected and uncared for with no service history or the one with the full service history and well looked after paintwork? It's a no brainer. The same stands true when trading it in. A car that's in excellent or very good condition is always valued higher.

Lastly, a well looked after car will look after its owner. That in itself is worth making the effort for!
