Update on DAB.
Had it fitted today. Took about 4 hours (but don't know how much of that was actual work time). Only thing visible inside the car is the windscreen aerial and the 'remote plip'. The autoDAB is set on preset 6 on the FM radio band. The lower righthand steering column stalk can be used to control the volume exactly like normal radio. The 'plip' is required to change DAB stations. The plip is a little larger than the keyfob and has a sticky pad on it for attaching if desired. I have not attached it, it simply sits in the 'gap' below the radio controls.
The radio reception was superb for the whole of my 30 minute drive from the dealership in Chester to my home. Crystal clear golf commentary - vastly superior to listening to Radio 5 live on AM on the way there.
Cost was £190.

I have taken some pictures to show it:



I also have one of the aerial but the file is too big so I will try to reduce it and then upload it.

Thanks for the update and informative photos! Looks pretty tidy actually. I'd consider it if I was an avid listener of the radio. However, I never listen to it and prefer to blast out my own selection of tunes.

Strange but hey the screen look nice,My ST HAS A NAFF SONY SAT NAV :thumbdown: but they give you a reversing camera to compensate for its crap graphics..........always wanted sat nav in a car,now that i have it, i've only used it once :lol:

I went for the Pure branded version of Alpine unit which I fitted myself. I've got some more info and some piccys in the post below if anyone happens to be interested in that option.

I've just purchased a 2014 RCZ R with a RT6 (without DAB) media system. Is there anyone out there that has had an AutoDAB system installed? If so, can you tell me who did it? My local dealer is hopeless.

Can this autodab be fitted to the standard headunit that doesnt have satnav? Very interested at this price and something i would say should be made a stickyy post as alot of rcz cars dont have dab as standard!

I have the dab radio in my 208XY, having tried dab and normal, im sticking with normal, its just better.

Today I finally got the AutoDAB unit added to the RT6 unit on my 2014 RCZ R. I now have a tidy little aerial attached to the inside of the windscreen and a remote control fob. It is amazing how my local dealer said it could not be done and I would have to replace the whole existing unit to get DAB functionality at the cost of £1800. It was worth the 80 mile round trip to get it fitted for £248.

I got this fitted to my car from dealer before taking delivery.I find it is great.Just have to use the flip i suppose is a little annoying.But apart from that all is good. :thumbup:

Seriously thinking of this as an upgrade to my existing system RT 6. Trouble is I live in the cotswold hills and although I get a great fm signal, dab just doesn't seem to cut it.
My only experience however is with Peugeot courtesy cars which have this functionality built in. Always switches switches back to fm.
Shame I can't get reliable 3/4g either as that would do the job with a decent data allowance.
Any other ideas I may not have thought of?

Dab is mainly a thing for citys as such.When fm is switched off in 2016 as they imply.Whole relay thing has to be looked at.All fine where i live,but if i was in the south i would have more choice. :x

It wont be switched off for at least 10 years :roll:

The day when the FM radio signal will be switched off is drawing nearer, the Government indicated, after the UK reached a “tipping point” in the conversion to Digital radio.
Ed Vaizey, the culture minister, said that a doubling in the size of local digital transmitters, along with increased penetration of digital radio in cars, meant that the Government’s criteria for “digital switchover” would be met in two years.

Although the minister said it was too early to put a precise date on “digital switchover”, a move which it is feared could disenfranchise some listeners who may not be able to access a digital signal, Mr Vaizey called for radio manufacturers to stop producing analogue-only sets.

Mr Vaizey said that switching off FM radio signals would be “controversial” but over the next five years a “tipping point” would be reached, which could make switchover a natural course of events.
