Cost of Tyres for 19" Wheels

Was reading another forum and cam across the following thread: Hope Tyres are not this price!!!!!!

Read before you spec 19" wheels " I was just having a look at how much the tyres cost for the 19" wheels on the RCZ and it doesn't make for good reading, prices range from £210 per tyre to £300 a tyre.

Make sure you can afford to replace them as I had a look for alternatives and there aren't many at all and any that I did find cost about £200 anyway.

The size 235/40/19 is actually a very rare tyre size and doesn't give you much choice in the way of tyres only Continental, Pirelli and Bridgestone do these tyres and all are £200+ per tyre so something to consider before choosing them as an option.

You might find the odd budget tyre around but then this will just compromise the grip and handling of the car as the Continentals were designed for the RCZ as I just found out from this months EVO magazine.

The only other option people might want to try is to put 245/40/19 which is only adds 4mm to the thickness of the sidewall which to be honest is nothing much and you can get a tyre like Goodyear EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC - 245/40/19 (Which is better than the contis) for about £153"[/color]

It does make you wonder how they can justify these prices though - almost £1k if you need 4 tyres at the same time  It never occured to me to check the prices of tyres before opting for the 19inch alloys :?

What does Peugotprod say about using the 245's to the 240's?
Apart from using Continentals - it might be useful to see peugeot's take on the subject - 4mm or not?
How are warranty's impacted on, Insurance for non standard wheels and tyres etc?
Users need to ask before going for the wider?

Just done a quick internet search

Kwik Fit have

- Bridgestones at 211.65
- Pirellis at 207.36
- Continentals at 220.32

for 235/40/19s (need to add £11 for valve/balance/disposal to these)

Not cheap, but just over 200 quid a corner's not too bad for 19s (hopefully prices may fall, or am I being optimistic!)

You would have to be really really unlucky to have to replace all 4 tyres at the same time !

And I'm sure will be mentioned for many years to come :eusa-whistle:

Normal wear / tear could see four tyres needing replacement at the same time.

Like mine, last year (current car). Four in one go due to tread getting low. Front's replaced every year so far. :helpme:

"That's £1k please Sir.
What's the best price you can do.
Ok, if you buy all four today, £800.
I'll take them !!"

(Current) Car only takes one type of tyre - What fool decided that.

Oh well, looks like I've still got the Tyre Joy to look forward to.

Good job my (new) Car's delayed yet again. Dealer gone very quiet for some reason. :(

Normal wear and tear - The front tyres should take more of a pounding due to it being a front wheel drive surely. I have very bad experiences with tyres - I have more new ones than anyone I know but I've never had to have 4 replaced at the same time.

However, its all part and parcel of car ownership surely. Its not just buying the car that matters, you have to think of running costs too, servicing, fuel, tyres, etc, etc. Buying the car is the easy part.

I did have good look at the tyres on the cars used to go around the track yesterday, no real noticeable wear but the grip was still good, you might be lucky and get some reasonable miles out of them, but then again it's all down to how hard you drive the car.

I will say I don't think the larger tyre will work (245), the reason I say that is because I took the wheel off over the weekend to wax me rims   I noticed rubbing on the plastic wheel arch cover from the tyre, they are that close, :wtf: I am talking 19" I don't think the 18" will have the same problem.

Ive had to replace all 4 in one go - on a mercedes clc!! Really unlucky

I suppose buying the car is easy if you got circa £22k!! lol If not, its bloody hard I guess :eusa-whistle:

Either way I think its taking the micky charging these sort of prices for for tyres - nothing to do with whether individuals can afford it or not!!

My wife's nissan had a similar problem, because the tyre size had been designed for the car and the first tyre change was needed about 2 years later and prices were ridiculous. But you just have to take it on the chin, subsequent purchases were far more reasonable as the tyre size became more commonplace.

The other thing that bothers me is if your out & about how easy is it going to be to get a replacement if you have a puncture.

We went over to the isle of man in our Z4 that had the run flats on.

It took quite a while phoning round to find one which I did eventually, first few tyre companies said that they didnt stock them but could order them in 3-4 days!!!!!!

Personally I would like to get hold of a spare of some kind just in case when out in europe etc, understand Peugeot recovery does not cover tyre damage & think AA cover or similar is totally unnecessary for something this simple never mind the time it will take to get your car recovered.
