Conspicuous by its absence

That analogy does not wash, as to be eligible to play for your national team, you would have to meet certain criteria. I don't know the criteria, but doubtless you have to be born in the country whose national team you wish to play for or something similar. I too remember a British Motor Industry. Red Robbo may you rest in hell for what you helped do to it.

Yep but that's kinda the point I was making...what is the criteria for saying what's British? And should the criteria be different depending on the subject matter (cars/football/whatever) or should it be standardised :)

For me the RCZ is French because it's a French brand.

Period!

The good thing is, it's mostly build from Non-french parts

Made in the UK AND ASSEMBLED in the UK are 2 totally different things,I didnt class my Civic type R as british...its built in Swindon  its Japanese though, put together in swindon with the Japanese mentality, engines made in Japan, the same goes for Nissan,Rolls Royce cars is a german company...BMW. The rcz is a french car assembled in Austria.

My ford Focus is American assembled in Poland by cabbage eating Pols,My LG tv ASSEMBLED in Poland......Korean company..............

We could go on and on about this, but at the end of the day the RCZ is a FRENCH CAR WITH ALL PROFITS GOING BACK INTO A FRENCH CAR COMPANY,as is all the above whatever country the car firm belongs to, so do the profits

But is it simply assembled, or are components sourced locally?

Just because cars are assembled in a certain country doesn't mean they source components locally! As I've said before they will source them from wherever they get the best deal combined with quality and shipped to the assembly line.

Ron I get your point really i do,I worked in the semiconductor industry for nearly 2 decades :wtf: on and off...ie Motorola, national semiconductors,NEC,FUJITSU.......and a few others.Yes a lot base materials sourced where of a local origin, that where part of the end product...ie a silicon chip, but they all belonged to Japanese or American companys, although made in/assembled in Scotland

Well...the RCZ is French to my mind too. It's akin to saying Apple products are Chinese because the majority of parts are outsourced there for labour costs and tax purposes. The country of ownership of the brand dictates its ownership regardless IMO. With that...I'm out.

Good luck on the RCZ spotting in its HOMELAND!!! ;)

I hope to go to Normandie/Brittany next year and I was going to bring the car. I would expect to see some rcz's there but after reading this I'm not so sure now. Still it won't put me off. I'm sure Most frenchies will be happy to see a French car roaming their roads!!!

Thanks for all your contributions. I didn't quite expect the level of debate which developed. The phrase "Light blue touch-paper and retire" did spring to mind. Tomorrow I'll raise the subjects 'driving at 65mph in the middle lane' and 'the reintroduction of the death penalty'. I look forward to reading your views ;)

Took Lawrence to France last month and I had so many cars waving and flashing at me I thought something was wrong. The French seem to be very happy to see the RCZ what ever plates they are displaying. Just saying... happy driving

We spend every Easter and summer in Brittany, often driving from Cherbourg, and the only RCZs I've ever seen are two in Avranches, one black, one white. We get lots of admiring looks at our mercury and total strangers stop to talk about it!
