Merry post Christmas all!

I’m close to finally purchasing my RCZ

Going to have a final look at one on Monday with a view to buy

Is there an decent guide to what I should be checking for on a Used Rcz on the forum ?

I’ve had a search and couldn’t really find one (apologies if I’ve missed it )

Not massively technically minded so want to make sure I don’t miss anything obvious.

If it helps it’s a 2013 200 with 50k on it

I assume in that Age as long as it’s been serviced each year I should be ok ?

I think I’ve pretty much read every post on my lunch breaks over the past 6 months since I’ve decided to buy a RCZ!

Off the top of my head.

All RCZs collapsed jacking points. Locking wheel bolts and keys are crap, if standard. Bin them and fit 4x standard wheel bolts.

Petrol, start it from cold and listen for the chain slapping around. They like eating coilpacks. I replaced one on mine, and have seen many report they have had them replaced on their cars.
High pressure fuel pumps are a weakness.

Hi , as already said main thing is timing chain, make sure engine is cold before you test if there are problems it will sound like a diesel for a few moments then may quieten down, thing is these engines do rattle a bit when cold so don’t confuse the two. At 50k it may have already been changed check the service history.
Give the car a good run don’t be shy and give it some berries up and down the gearbox if there are any faults these should be thrownup on the dash.
And yes hands and knees job to check the jacking points are intact search the forum for photos so you know what to look for.
As always if any doubt walk away there are loads for sale but it’s easy to be seduced by those beautiful looks :thumbup:

Just think of the Z as a beautiful woman. Most of them are truly Marilyn Monroes, but the occasional one will turn out to be a Lady Boy, so don’t just be taken in by the good looks, have a good luck underneath to see exactly what you are getting. :thumbup:

I agree. Wait until some dill 'rattle-guns' the locking bolts on. You'll most likely never get them off and break them trying. Same happened to me on my 207cc Sport.

I see what you mean by not being swayed by the RCZ's looks!

Walked away from one today... it was hard! Ticked a lot of boxes

Although now I've had time to think about it with my brain not my heart the moss and mould in the boot probably gave away how the garage / owners had cared for it!

The fact that the garage couldn't even be bothered to clean it off speaks volumes! on to the next one !!

I'm guessing that the odd surface scratch / slightly curbed alloys should be expected with general wear and tear.

I've only had new cars in the past so this is all new to me!

As you say a car 5 years old is going to have some slight blemishes, curbed alloys can always be refurbed but generally you can tell if a cars been looked after for me if the interior and exterior is near mint then the owners hopefully have cherished the car, the thing is you just can’t stop those annoying supermarket car park dings.

That sounds like a quote I was given when I went to look at my first R....

I was so looking forward to seeing it and when I got there and saw it my heart sank, I started picking faults straight away. Now bear in mind the car was only 2 years old with 4950 miles on the clock, you would expect it to be immaculate, it was and it wasn't? because it had a couple of pings here and a stone chip there, plus it looked like someone had been figure skating on the boot.
the salesman said to me " I think you are being too unrealistic here sir and your expectations are to high, it is a secondhand car at the end of the day", I replied yes it is but it's two years old with less than 5k on the clock, come have a look at my GT 200 which is 5 years old and it's immaculate. He did and had to concede that mine was in superb condition and could understand why I was disappointed.
I felt sorry for the salesgirl.. it was her first sale and she was buzzing until I turned up !!!!
Anyway I did buy it, but there aren't that many R's to choose from and they are sooo hard to walk away from, but as Neil rightly points out, the condition inside and out does give an indication of how well it's been looked after.

Good look o patient one, time is a virtue and so are RCZ's !!!!

Well my decision to walk away was shown as right when I went to look at another today.
The ride was completely different (both GT's on 19' so I imagine suspension etc is the same) so it shows that something was seriously wrong with the one I saw yesterday. Bodywork was in much better condition.

My heart sank though when I looked at the Jacking points.

2 on the offside are bent out of shape.
No splits that I can see.

Should that put me off completely?

It looks like its just the lip itself that' bend slightly.

I have heard Peugeot charging £400 to repair a jacking point, but don’t know how badly damaged it was I have one front bent flat and have never had it repaired and it hasn’t bothered me at all as I lift off the chassis, I know of one owner that has bent his back straight with a lump hammer and a block of wood! Make sure the one your looking at have not split the cill, take a small mirror to see well underneath. It could be a bargaining point if the rest of the car is right :thumbup:

The more expensive repairs involve welding the split cill, and these are more important as they are (potentially) an MOT failure.

The bent lip is just a bargaining point unless you really want to use a standard jack (not advisable) instead of a trolley jack on the cross members.

There really are a lot of RCZ’s out there, and sadly for us owners, good news for you, the prices are pretty low at the moment, especially for what you are getting. So, hard as it is, walk away unless you are completely happy with everything.
