Cheap Winter Tyres

Well I for one am very grateful for the fact that I invested in winter tyres. Travelling along to work this morning, all seemed fine. It was -1 so milder than of late. A White van man overtook and duly lost control as he attempted to return to the nearside lane. First it twitched and swerved and then rolled over a couple of times and just for good measure somersaulted and ended up on its side. Scary for me as I too was "motoring on" but Pearl2 came to a stop in a straight line with the hazard lights already deployed
Whilst on the telephone to the emergency services a car basically turned left from the outside lane and ran up the embankment and too landed on its side. The lady driver came off better than White van man who was bleeding profusely from his head. His leg and arm were causing him pain too, whereas the lady was unhurt and freed by the fire and rescue service

The moral of this for me is that thanks to the car that I was driving and the tyres fitted I avoided being involved in an accident. I feel confident that without these two factors I too would have been involved. The road was like an ice rink. I had a job to walk between the van and the car as it was so slippery

Ron it sounds like your tyres wear there y front outside there treads as they seem to be manufactured from the planet Krypton they by jorellises S zeros da,da

On that topic, have you seen the full trailer for the new 'Man of Steel' flick? I've never been a big fan of Superman but I'm willing to give this a go due to Christopher Nolan's involvement. It actually looks very promising.

I just watched the newest Spider-Man on Saturday...it's absolutely cracking isn't it?! I thought it was going to be pretty woeful so didn't bother with it at the cinema. I wish I had now! Really enjoyed the reinvention of Peter Parker. Great stuff!! Yup, the whole Dark Knight trilogy has been fantastic! I'm just fearful about what happens to me favourite superhero when someone else takes the reigns!

Just back from a brief trip to Helsinki and saw an RCZ there having no problem at all driving on snow covered roads. No way to know if his tyres were studded or just proper winter/snow tyres but he (along with everyone else) was driving as if it was no worse than wet tarmac. The only sign it was slippery was a little wheelspin on pulling away but thereafter I was amazed at the grip they all achieved in straight lines, corners and under braking. Quite unnerving to witness at first.

I'm in the Netherlands which has similar weather to the UK but we do have snow occasionally and I also drive in Germany where winter tyres are obligatory in winter conditions.
So in november 2010 I bought 4 Michelin Pilot Alpin 235/45 R18 winter tyres and since then used them various times on snow covered roads and they've always provided perfect grip without wheel spin. They are also available in the correct 19" size.
I had them fitted for just over EUR. 1000 for the set and recommend them to everyone.
I've got them on the car now and you can see them in action here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4995&start=21

DONNA I LOVE YOU
So we had approx 8" of snow fall last evening.. Pearl2 did not do snow. She always got stuck in our little hamlet as the first flakes fell.

NOT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to Donna introducing me to winter tyres, I have just driven into town (having helped to push a Mercedes out of the hamlet) ha anyway went into town to the park and ride, huge parking area, with all the parked cars clumped into a small area. Acres of deeep virgin snow. Pearl2 had a whale of a time in that :D Traction is no longer a worry for me, all I need now is to avoid over convidence

You have done me a huge favour Donna  My winter worries are gone

  It is a great tyre isn't it?! Thankfully my advice about this particular tyre didn't result in capturing your heart! However, I'll warn you now RON, it's not so great on thick volumes of slush or very compacted snow. Some extensive testing over the last week has proved this fact so, while there's no doubt in my mind that, it's a great tyre but it still requires some caution to be exercised in the aforementioned conditions or you will go sideways. Incidentally, it will allow you to pull a cracking handbrake turn...

I can confirm in virgin snow they are amazing  Hard compacted snow as in our hamlet does not present any difficulties with traction. Snow here last for weeks due to the high volume of mature trees preventing any of those rare sun rays to melt it.
Proper love you too Rizz as you did indeed put me on the right track with regard to buying the correct size winter tyre

They have. Thanks to this "unfriendly forum" I thank you for introducing me to the existence of Winter Tyres and to Mr Rizz for pointing me in the direction of the actual specific tyre
