Not expensive all in under $100aud. The benefits are that as the RCZ is a direct injection engine we run the risk of carbon build-up because of PCV vapor on the inlet valves, this theoretically reduces this from happening. Look up catch can for Mini R56 on youtube as plenty of those owner have done this.
Parts required:
Catch Can (from ebay)
Heater hose (Auto pro shop)
Silicone hose angle (Auto pro shop)
Hose clamps (Auto pro shop)
Hose connector (Auto pro shop)
Recommendation is a walnut blast of the Valve chambers at 60.000 Klm so you could say fit the catch can or get all the carbon removed for a fixed price ?
I'm not knocking the catch system but it won't stop carbon build up completely as you will still have oil vapours inside the engine swirling around the valve stems which will still foul the chambers its also been suggested keeping the engine cleaner by more frequent oil services helps with the carbon problem well before the allotted time for the mileage services mine never passes 3.500-4000 Klm before it gets changed
The Mini guys have proven that this does help but it’s something that really wants doing from new or after a walnut clean, it’s something that you’ll only see the benefits of many miles down the road and as mentioned previously won’t totally cure valve fouling but for what it costs it’s well worth doing
