So the government have kind of but not really eventually listened to what the motoring organisations have been saying for years.
If road tax was abolished, and a small amount of EXTRA tax added to the already exorbitant tax imposed on fuel, the following would happen. :sleeping-yellow:
Road tax evaders could no longer evade road tax.
The little old lady who does 800 miles a year would pay virtually no road tax, but the guy in the 18 litre Jag who does 40000 miles a year would rake it in for HM GOV.
The aforesaid HM GOV would also be quids in as it could then reduce the staff it employs, as admin no longer required for road tax, and as fuel duty admin already in place, no extra costs involved to HM GOV. :eusa-think:

But instead, HM GOV in their infinite wisdom have abolished tax discs, but not road tax! :wtf:

Now, if you sell your already taxed car, the road tax cannot be transferred with the vehicle, but you can only claim back the tax for any FULL months remaining. So every car that is sold, the better off HM GOV are, cos you can't claim back the tax for that month, but the new owner has to tax it from the beginning of that month, so HM GOV get paid twice for the month in which you sell your car.

One of these days, someone will list EVERY tax imposed by HM GOV, and the percentages involved. Then people will realise it is not the guy who knocks on your door telling you you need a few roof tiles replacing that is the scam artist, it's the bunch of suits that sit in Westminster! :eusa-whistle:

Oops, just fell off my soap box :geek:

I never really thought about that argument to add the road tax to the cost of fuel. I can see a number of loopholes but, in essence, it's a belter of an idea.

Just wait until your government invents something else that you need to disgrace your windscreen with, like the Germans did with the environment sticker

what an ugly and brain-dead piece of ...
It is also required to be on foreign cars but there have been court rulings that they cannot give you a ticket for that while the car is parked.
And it get even worse because they are going to introduce a toll system for all roads so that foreign cars need to have a vignet for that as well.

From memory I believe Spain has a no road tax but pay it on the fuel system (bet its still cheaper than our petrol prices!) so there must be a way to do it

Its also a bit dopey of the Government to still have me taxing or SORN ing my Vette

During the winter I tax it for a month then SORN it for a month so I can drive it once every 5 weeks or so and keep the it turning over and warmed through which must be a right pain in ass for them I,m sure other do the same

hello guys its 77 car give me it for free!!
