I got the timing chain changed on the R last week. Since then there is a very obvious air leak when on boost.

It starts above 3500rpm.

The garage had a look over and couldn't find where the leak is coming from.

Any weak points to look for? It must be connected to the timing chain change as it never happened before.

Badly connected leaking Pipe work is normally the issue aside from the wastegate malfunctioning?
The could try a smoke test as its the quickest way to detect any leakage on all the air intakes/Vac lines

They said they did a smoke test but it didn't have enough pressure. They are borrowing equipment off another garage.

The wastegate wouldn't be touched during a timing chain change?

The wastegate working correctly is vital to the Turbos performance & it can become problematic anytime it only needs a fault trigger in the system & if boost pressure is an issue it could have an affect on its functionality as for the garage borrowing stuff sounds like they could be struggling to find the fault do they know the PSI pressure?

The garage don't know where it's coming from. They checked all the things they removed and couldn't find anything wrong.

I'm not sure if they checked the boost pressure.

There are no fault codes showing.

Yes you can hear it so a boost leak is in some cases attributed to an air leak on the "Downstream path of the mass airflow sensor (MAS or MAF)" & can often occurs as the engine is under boost from the turbo although its strange it only appeared after they had the rocker cover off & all the pipework?
I would imagine the only way to find it is a smoke pressure test & to do a PSI check as even a small hairline crack in the pipework & or intake manifold will mean loss of sealed intake pressure

Still waiting to get the car in.

There was also two Vanos solenoids changed at the same time as the timing chain.

Recommendation is Vanos seals should be changed around 50.000 as the seals are by then dying a death & apparently a vac leak has been a known issue with the Vanos seal failures

Manifold absolute pressure sensor or MAP sensor whilst standing in front of the engine to your left you will see a pipe coming from the intercooler the sensor is located on top near the rear towards the Air filter box

It's going from bad to worse at the moment.

The car hasn't been out in the dark for a few weeks. I went into an underground car park today and as soon as the headlights came on an error came on.

Automatic headlight adjustment error.

My reader doesn't pick up the fault code.
