Benefit of silicone hoses?

Can anyone explain to me why to get silicone hoses, such as "Forge Motorsport Silicone Intake Hose" for my THP200? What is the benefit for that, than getting more color under the bonnet?

I think one reason is that they are internally smoother, so the air doesnt bounce around and resonate. A bit like port and polishing the head? (Just not as extreme)

May also be that they are lighter? Every gram counts in performance :p

EDIT: I had the wrong idea of what the hoses were for lol

This may be helpful:

One hose, without a damper, of the Forge intercooler-hoses does replace the standard hose with damper.
RCZ Performance, do you know what effect this will have or where this damper is installed for in the first place?

To be honest I am not sure as to the reason for the damper, but I take Forge expertise that with the silicon hoses it is not needed.

BTW...was at Forge today finalizing the fitment of the final intercooler design, hard pipe, and blow-off valve. All working and installed on ours as part of our development with them. We will have all of these items on our shop soon. Again these are all for the THP200.

Maybe Forge can explain the purpose of this damper to you?
And I hope to see and read about the new items soon! All these items are on my wishinglist :).

I have asked my contact at Forge about this and will let you know what they say.

Hope you are following us on Facebook as that is where I announce new products etc. on a regular basis ;)

Could you elaborate on what you mean by the damper and which hose are you talking about exactly that this is on?

If you stand in front of your car and look at the turbo unit, you see two big hoses at the right of this turbo. One comes from the airintake box and the other, the one closed to you, goes down from the turbo straight to the intercooler. This last hose has a part in the middle what looks like a damper. I dont see this on the Forge hose.

I'll take a look at my factory hoses that are now of the car to see what your are looking at and then go back to Forge.

Thanks.

Here is a photo of the hoses that have been removed from my car:

Please confirm what you are referring too, I think your mean the cannister looking item connected to the right hose in the picture.

Thanks.

I just took a picture from the side in my car and it is about 4" (or 10cm) high.

I believe it is the same 'cannister' as you have on your picture. So in your picture, if you turn the buttom right hose 90degrees clockwise, it will fit in the right side of the upper hose with the grey netting on it and it will look like what you see on my picture.

A Mini Cooper tuner tells me it is a muffler. The Mini has the same part on the hose. This muffler actually costs you a small amount of power so while you get a nice color under the hood with placing the silicone, you also get a very small performance boost  ...and some more noise obviously
