If you have an idle moment and ever need reminding what an arrogant and self-important bunch Audi TT owners are, just take a look at this from back in 2010 when the RCZ was just released into the wild:

http://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=167863

After reading some of the choice comments there you will be in no doubt that you chose the right car in the RCZ and didn't become another of these pompous plums!

In my street and the adjoining street there are currently 5 TTs which in my world automatically means driving the Z (1 of in said streets) is the right choice for me, who wants to be a sheep in a flock of TT driving clones :sleeping-yellow:

Any decent drive means 20 TT sightings to a single Z sighting if your lucky

I'm aware to some this means 2 million (or whatever) TT owners cant be wrong I'm sure its a decent car but it doesn't exactly touch the soul does it? Most Audi and Vee Dub drivers I know drive with their wallet to the forefront i.e. residual values being important when they buy the car rather than the feeling of a car and where it fits in your life. I don't want to come across like our resident troll but I freely appreciate I'm in a position fiscally where the residual isn't as important to me as the thrill of driving the car so I am sensitive to those threads on here worrying about how much they get when they sell the car. I would however say that some of the best cars I have owned I got caned when selling them (Lotus Carlton Escort Cosworth to name but 2) but looking back I,m very glad at the time I bit that bullet

As the Advert says the Z choses you which in some ways is very perceptive as that is certainly how I see it with my desire to buy... I spend a couple of years resisting the whisper in my ear every time I saw one saying "buy me" but pleased to say I succumbed the next time a car change was due

I also think they are dreaming if they think the modern TT looks cool in my opinion it looks like a 911 that's shrunk in the wash which sort of leads me to think there are lots of drivers getting up drawing the curtains and instead of (as I do) thinking "what a lovely car and its mine" they start the day wishing they had a 911!

I had a typical hairdressers car comment from a TT owning work associate funny how he went quiet when I pointed out how unhairdresser ish it was for the second stage spoiler to deploy at 98mph as I would say at that point you are beyond the posing stage (so come on Z owners no auto override round town!!) Not sure when the TT fully deploys but it seems a lot lower than 98mph?

Anyways I'm not putting the TT down just saying its not for me but I would be happy if the beige people that tend to drive them while thinking it makes them edgy and cool would leave me alone to drive in my opinion the best "budget" coupe in production at the moment :eusa-whistle:

There are so many ridiculous quotes from that link but this one really sends the BS meter into overdrive:

"I couldn't care about the badge if the TT was actually made by Ford or Skoda or any Jap make I would still have bought one, just so happens it's by Audi."

Yeah yeah, of course... lol

Admittedly I stopped reading at page 3 but good for those that had the courage to raise their heads above the parapet and actually admit to liking it. There are a number of issues I have with these people though and a post that stuck in my mind from the second page was about trying to pull a girl in a bar and being asked what you drove. Has anyone EVER been asked this by a girl in a bar or otherwise?! In my experiences this NEVER happened and if it happened to the person who posted that then I suspect that their chat up technique was dreadful! He has far greater worries than what car he drives if he has experienced this!

Ultimately, the comparisons between the two cars are unfortunate and, I have to admit that I actually do like the TT from the mk2 onwards. They're good cars in my opinion but horribly common. I actually looked at one some time before buying the RCZ but I had issues with how cramped the interior was. Great drive though and the TTRs can shift. Both, in their own rights great cars. The comparisons are unnecessary.

you're gonna have to take a lot of what is said on that site with a large pinch of salt. You are not going to find many TT owners admitting that the RCZ is a better car or more beautiful etc. Nonetheless, I for one actually owned a MK2 2.0 TFSI for 3 years and it was a fantastic car to drive and I never had a moments trouble with it!!

My circumstances changed and I needed to buy a diesel but when I first saw the RCZ I was astonished at how beautiful it was and............... I simply had to have it!! :auto-car:

I still love the TT (MK1, 2 and 3) and I miss my old car and the sheer power but I still believe the RCZ is more beautiful and a lot rarer! :eusa-whistle:

Very funny comments. Particularly "looks like a Peugeot so thumbs down" lol. Brand snobbery at its finest.

Actually I like it, if I wasnt a badge snob (I would not drive a French car unless its a Bugatti) and they had a decent engine then I would consider one.

I think they are saying "I like the RCZ but can't have one because I need to be with a crowd"
I dare not have my own thoughts. I dare not be different.

Same as they would get the admiring looks from tt drivers!

Last weekend my girlfriend and I were in the South of Germany for a short break and I noticed when we were leaving a man was checking the back of my car to see what it was exactly.
Then when I stopped for a splash and dash at a petrol station I got a compliment about the car from a motorcycle driver (but that may also have been because I offered to move it forward before going inside to pay so he'd be able to refuel his bike sooner).
I don't think a TT will get these type of responses. :sleeping-yellow:

A TT owner would never use such poetic phrases such as "splash and dash" neither

Before buying the Megane CC, the car I had before the Z, I went to look at a TT. I had always liked them, but never been in one.
After sitting in it, both my wife and I said it felt really cramped, and we decided not to even drive it. No point, as we didn't like the interior - wouldn't like being in there, so wouldn't have been buying it anyway.
I suspect if I had driven it, I would have loved it, and I still think they are a good looking car BUT the Z has a much more modern look, is by far better inside, and of course is more affordable, especially in the used market.

As has been pointed out, if it's residuals you are really concerned about, the Z is probably not the best choice for you.
I am certainly not in a position to Dismiss how much my car will depreciate, but to me, owning a car is about how it looks, drives, makes you feel, and I didn't give a single moments thought about how much money I may or may not lose during the time I own the Z.

I still like the look of the TT, but I know I will never own one. I think one of the differences between a TT owner and an RCZ owner is that we are not afraid to say we like the TT but prefer the RCZ.

BTW I am still laughing out load at the girl in the bar asking what car the guy drove :eusa-think:

Girl in a bar asked me that question. When I told her it was an RCZ she brought both her sisters too. Fact.

Poor souls... well I don't think they have a soul. True is: the TT isn't a bad car. The problem is that if you want a great one, you'll never find by the starting range. Many people let be inducted by Top Gear, believing that every Golf, BMW and Audi are supercars. Time to time I use my "humble" 156thp to give a lesson to boys driving entry level Golf and thinking it's a GTI.
The same would happen if 99% of the TTs around try to have a go with a RCZ 200 or the R.

My mum bought a Mk I TT a while ago for some reason. It's the 1.8T Quattro I think. I've driven it a couple of times and while it's OK to drive (and quite quick) the interior is dull, the seats unpleasant and the ride too firm. I'd have the RCZ any day and am hoping she'll swap it soon for a Red Carbon (as my dad is a massive Pug fan)!... If you read the Audi TT thread, most of them haven't even seen the RCZ in the flesh for starters... if they'd driven a specced up 200GT they'd be able to comment... and as for the RCZ-R

They also fail to grasp that the RCZ is not even built by Peugeot - it's actually built by Magnyr Steyr which a simple Wiki search would have revealed - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_RCZ. Nothing but badge snobbery and ignorance from the majority, which is hardly surprising for Audi drivers... :eusa-whistle:

On a random note, just found this RCZ folding roof example while searching!! - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/peugeot/rc ... onvertible
