I have been thinking of buying an RCZ for the last 6 month I think they look fantastic. I now have 13k to finely get a second hand one. But after looking at this forum and all the reliability problems I now am having second thoughts. Are they really that troublesome and what could I do if anything to lesson the chance of a Friday car as you put it. I thought of ringing the garage that serviced it and asking if the car had any issues with it :? thanks for any advice

Forums are frequently found by people who are looking for answers to issues that they have. Therefore you tend to read a lot about "issues"

The RCZ was a new car and with all things new they had "teething problems" all of which have now been discovered and dealt with FOC under warranty.

The HDi appears to have suffered few if any of the engine related issues, but obviously did suffer the wing mirror leak issue.

Buy the RCZ only if one chooses you, check that it has had the common issues sorted and then be prepared to fall in love with a car. The RCZ is special and it only chooses special keepers.

Pray before you sleep that you too may be chosen

Some examples may have more issues than other, and some are completely spotless. There's no way of telling.
But that applies to any car you buy. Even if you buy a Toyota Corolla it's no guarantee that it won't have a bucketload of problems.

I was also like you a little skeptical before buying an RCZ because i read about the various problems it could have but i bought one anyway and so far i have only had to replace a coolant sensor (under warranty) and that's it. Can't complain there at all.

A small tip i can give you would be to avoid the 2010 models if the budget allows.

If you want the car, go for it!

I hope I'm not temting fate here but I've had mine for almost 12 months, done 11k miles and had no problems whatsoever - not even small niggles. So I'd say go for it!

Hi & welcome I've had my second hand 2010 hdi for 12months now & I love it, I've experienced no problems at all & im still smiling. I think with any make or model car there is always some issues you encounter. Just keep looking & one will choose happy RCZ hunting

Agree that the HDi appears to have suffered the least over the years.
Probably due to the stronger, more powerful engine to get the heavy car around.

My advice is centered on how you drive.

If you want to "boot it" everywhere, avoid anything with a 1.6l engine.
You are going to overstrain it.

If your driving is moderate / normal i.e. drive reasonably, with the occasional "boot" now and then, any of the models will do.

Suggest that the HDi is the best all-rounder.

The good news is that you are armed with this Forum Knowledge, so you should be looking for the issues / concerns raised on your test drive / viewing of the right RCZ.

Good Luck

This afternoon was on the phone for a 2010 GT 156 with 13000 on the clock its got a sat nav for £12500 with 12month warranty from a peugeot dealer. I was not interested in the diesel but after reading I will have a look and see what there is about. I am looking for the GT then I can't really see what extras there could be is there any I should look for apart from sat nav so am going ahead and getting one thanks again for the replies

An absolute must is the vision pack, if possible the sports pack.

Hi Figo you can have any sport you see I'm just looking at the GT model. Engine wise have decided to go for a diesel or 200hp petrol. Colour wise I like dolphin blue copper or grey. I would really like a sat nav but not many have them and the seating not that keen on black do they have a grey or something a bit lighter ?

Go for the HDi best of both worlds with the vision pack

Remember that the HDi often carries a significant price premium over even the THP200. When you're working to a tight purchase budget that may be an important factor ie. newer lower mileage petrol versus older higher mileage diesel. Diesels will certainly do more mpg but at a higher fuel cost per gallon. I get around 41 mpg from my car and do around 10k-11k miles pa so it was a borderline decision costwise. The more miles you do the easier the decision to go diesel.

Hi Hanswuk I only do 5k a year so the mpg is not that important. what is the vision pack about T110jim and 0058RON think its a must have but I have looked through auto trader at thousands of cars for sale and never seen it once how can I tell if its got it the cars with sat nav are rare was it a very expensive option. :?

The vision pack is essentially the pack that added self levelling xenon lights, headlight washers (mandatory in the UK for all xenon lights and a tyre pressure guage/warning. My biggest regret is not having specced it to my own GT.

The Sat Nav was a pretty pricey addition. As I recall, it was a hefty £1,435. It's worth scoping for as it results in a tidier finish to the interior...and also you'll have sat nav...

If you look carefully you will see the washer jets in the second image. These are the diamond shapes below the headlamps. They are not on the first image. This shows the presence of "Vision Pack"
