Anyone Powdercoated their Solstice Alloys?

The diamond cut finish on my Solstice alloys have corroded pretty badly over this winter, to the point where 3 could be done with a refurb. This seems to be partly due to age and also damage to the lacquer when tyres were changed.

I'm tempted to get them all fully powder coated. This will avoid the inherent corrosion problems of the diamomd cut finish and is slightly cheaper. I'll most likely sell the car soon so mainly want to make it presentable.

Has anyone done this? I just wonder how this design of alloy looks when it's a single colour, since it's designed to be two tone. Any photos would be great.

You can buy the same alloy "anthra grey" so this should provide you with a fairly good idea of how they would look powder coated.

That's actually the colour I have. In reality there's a big difference in colour between the painted parts and the diamond cut finish, so there's an obvious two tone effect. I'm worried that losing the two tone will make the alloys look boring. The two tone effect isn't as obvious in that photo, so it sort of gives me an idea of how it looks.

I've never actually seen these alloys in the flesh so I didn't actually realise how much of a contrast there might be. They may look a little more boring bring powder coated one colour but they should be a damn sight easier to maintain.

It's @ £60 per wheel to have them fully refurbished, including the diamond cut sections. The only problem is timescale, it takes @ a week, and with no spare, I can't afford the time off the road.

Just had a quote from the wheel specialists Leeds for £410 fully refurbished 4 wheels with powder coating in any colour drive in drive out in the day! Expensive but if like me your pushed for time might be worth the extra. :thumbup:

It depends on where you're based. They obviously have the required lathe on site or close by. Up this way there isn't one for around 150 miles.

Contact number for a Diamond Cut Wheel Refurbishers in Wakefield 01924 259932. I have not used them, but they are recommended on Dubforce.net.
I have called them, and they quoted me £60 per wheel. They do indeed have a lathe on site, and re- cut the surface, getting rid of any edge damage. They also re powder coat the painted surfaces, and this can be either to the original colour, or one of your choice.

As I have said earlier, the only real downside is the timescale. They need some notice, as they are always busy, and they also need the wheel(s) for up to a week.

When I eventually manage to organise myself, mine is going in for 3 doing (might be all 4 by then). :eusa-think:

I agree though, if you are time constrained, then paying the extra might be worth your while.
