Any suggestions ?

Hi everyone,
Not posted in a while.

The car is going in for a MOT in 2 weeks and I've asked my mechanic if he could paint my rusty brake calipers and hubs (at last) black for me while its in. He said no prob quoted a very reasonable price (in my opinion).
He asked if I could get the paint to save money and hassle.
I know some of you have already done this but I would like to ask which paint would you recommend ?

I used Halfords caliper paint on mine, not had any issues yet

Do they have to be primed first?
Ensure paint can cope with the heat from the brakes.

Just took a look at halfords website and they don't do it in black ?? :thumbdown:
Just red,yellow and blue. I like the look of your red ones but really want to do them in black...

Not sure tianorth. I'm sure rob (the man doing it) will prime if needed.
He just wanted me to get the right color. Yes it must be suitable for high tempretures he did say that to me.
He will rub them down before painting.

Hi Tianorth, no priming just a good sand and clean with brake cleaner, the paint is highly heat resistant and made specially for calipers, mine have been done for 6 months now and not a chip or flake in sight

Seven, I never noticed when i was there if any black was available as i just looked for the Red, they are available on fleabay but don't know how good they are

On my previous car, I used Hammerite smooth. I know this comes in all colours including black, and it is designed to be used without primer. I didn't prime mine, and they were just as good when I sold it as the day I painted them.

I'm not sure about the heat resistant properties of this paint, but as I said, they were fine several years after initial painting.

Sorry but hammerite is not gonna be an option due to the heat factor.
I've seen a lot on fleabay and Amazon. that's why I am asking for tried and tested options.
Shame halfords don't do the black paint, would have thought it would be popular ?

Yes there are lots of different ones available. In various outlets and web sites that I've seen.
It's just that I've seen others who have painted theirs ,so really would like to know which one they used and the long term results That they've had.

Hi, my brother bought some red calliper paint off eBay and has been on for around 3 months with no problems I would imagine they're all of a muchness on eBay. He only gave his calipers a quick rub over with a wire brush before painting even though they were quite rusty and they look great now. :thumbup:

Well at the moment they are very noticeable, but for all the wrong reasons..all different colours of white and brown surface rust. I'd like them to sit quietly behind my 19" solstice alloys and do there job....I've seen others and like the look.

Think I prefer red actually, :eusa-whistle: if I hadn't bought a car that had the black pack fitted, I'm pretty sure they would have been red by now. :eusa-shhh:
