Am I making the right decision ??

Hi all,
New to the forum. Have been dreaming about an rcz the last year,finally going to pick up one in the UK on Monday. I live in Ireland. It's a 2010 White 2.0 HDI Model. 40000 miles on the clock. Anyway,the last few weeks I keep having second thoughts about buying one but then when I see them I fall in love again. Never owned a Peugeot or a diesel car. My main concern is reliability, I keep reading mixed reviews about engine,faults etc. I know the HDI engine is a well used engine with many cars so should be reliable enough? I am having a pre purchase inspection done this Saturday so hoping that will alleviate some concern. Plus I've had 3 months of trying to convince the girlfriend that I need this car,this is with a newborn,she has her own car so all good :lol:
Any thoughts or advice would be great.

The HDI engine is pretty much bulletproof, and a PDI should throw up any other concerns (check the cills).

As DKZ5745 says the diesel is the best reliable engine had mine just over 2.5 years never missed a beat.

Has lots of oomph as well, I'm getting 55-65 mpg.

Not had to top up oil, coolant, the only fluids I have topped up are the screen wash and diesel between yearly services.

i would like to echo what's already been said here. the diesel HDi engine is virtually bullet proof - i had one for three years and it never missed a beat and never drank a drop of oil in between services. if the car is to be used for commuting long distances then it is a ideal but if its only used for short distances then the DPF filter can clog and throw up engine warning lights. check the jacking sills cause they are notoriously flimsy and there is no spare wheel but there are options available to alleviate that. good luck :thumbup:

don't forget the VRT at the other end of the deal. the revenue commissioners haven't got a clue about cars and whatever online quote you received can be incorrect and they can charge you more. they will just throw a figure at you and you will just have to pay it - you cannot negotiate with Revenue! however, don't let it put you off. i bought mine in Northern Ireland and imported it from there. my tax bill was huge and then the clowns tried to fine me for late registration. but that was back in 2013 when the RCZ was virtually unknown here and my car was probably one of the first to be imported.

Thanks guys for all the info,really appreciate it. Yes the VRT is such a pain,every time I use the calculator I am getting different quotes on the fee. I have a bit put by to cover this so hopefully they go easy on me. :thumbup: these cars are so rare to see on Irish roads,can't wait to join the club. :dance:

keep a record of those quotes (ref no's) and they can help if you seek to appeal the fee. please note that in order to appeal the VRT, you have to pay the initial fee anyway and then lodge an appeal. have you tried looking for one in NI. might end up cheaper when you take into account the transport costs?

Good idea regarding keeping all the quotes i have gotten. Cheers. It's a 2010 White hdi. 40000 miles. 10000 sterling. Private sale. Hoping to get a mechanic over there to have a look sat morn. Vrt coming in between 2500-3000 euro. I have been looking up north the last few weeks also but I suppose I really have my heart set on a white one with the black alloys. At least if it was up north I would have some type of warranty etc. I don't mind holding off a few weeks so if mechanics report isn't 100%,I will just forget about it.

nope, no warranty even if you buy in NI. I bought mine in Donnelly and Taggart in Ballymena and it came with a 12 months warranty but it stated in the warranty that it was valid in UK only. I did have one wheel balance issue which they sorted out of goodwill but the small print confirmed it to me later. i didn't care, it was the car i wanted and i had to have it. good luck ....

Did not even realise the warranty wouldn't cover down south and had seen one in that exact garage only a few weeks ago. We really get screwed in Ireland. :thumbdown: Thanks for the info etc and hopefully mechanic comes back with some good news tomorrow morning. :thumbup:

my car only came with a two years manufacturers warrant from new, and i bought it just over two years old. there was a scheme to extend it to three years but the Irish dealership failed to offer that scheme over here so I had no warranty at all.

My RCZ is for 5 years with me next month. It has now just over 141 000km on the clock and counting.

Nothing special to report. I visit a racetrack 2 or 3 times a year. :auto-car: :auto-car:

Yes, I still haven my GTi16. It's currently in a pauzed restauration phase.
Priorities moved from the 309 to building my own house. Hope the 309 will be out on the road in the summer of 2017
