Hi,

I've had these replaced due to them constantly looking tarnished but now the same happens to the new ones. A design fault in my opinion. Will the above polish sort this as the car is now going back for good as I now have a company car? I don't want them to class these as chargeable wear and tear!

The Dodo Micro Prime will help but can I ask how you clean them?

Hi, I use Dodo juice born to be mild shampoo. I've just tried Autoglym Metal Polish which works a little but it's not good enough. Any ideas anyone?

As I mentioned Dodo Micro Prime polish.

What's your full wash regime? Do you wash in the shade or sun? The milky ness / cloudiness is caused by shampoo / TFR/ water left to dry to long on the car.

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic and currently experiencing milky / white appearance, so undertook some research, the following is in no way promoting any manufactures products just based on facts.

1. The aluminium roof rails have an anodized finish as confirmed by German manufactures published information.

2. On no account use a cleaning product that contains ammonia, this will have a detrimental effect to the anodized finish, if using a cleaner check manufactures data sheet that product does not contain ammonia. Local Peugeot dealer is using a metal paste in a toothpaste tube manufactured by PEEK which does contain ammonia - naughty. Spoke to PEEKS technical section who confirmed this product is not suitable for anodized aluminium finishes.

3. Autoglym recommend using their Super Resin Polish since their current toothpaste tube metal polish is not suitable for an anodized finish.

4. Peugeot state as published in their handbook under Cleaning and Maintenance " ALUMINIUM ARCHES - To clean arches do not use a dry cloth with an abrasive product. Use a a sponge and soapy water." - as useful as a chocolate teapot does not solve problem.

5. Autosol manufacture a dedicated toothpaste tube type product dedicated specifically for anodized aluminium

5. The following is an excellent response from another manufacture which has had approval to paste on the forum.

Subject: Supernaturalcarcare.com Enquiry

Good Morning Steve,

Anodised finishes won’t ever be a mirror finish I’m afraid. When the aluminium is anodised it will be a dull silver colour (This is due to the chemical bonding involved). If the anodised coating is removed, then the aluminium would be shiny and have a mirror finish, but it would dull again soon after (because of the way aluminium reacts to the air).

If your rail trims have been a mirror finish before, it’s most likely that the anodised coating has been removed. In which case, Supernatural Metal Polish would bring it back to a shine/mirror finish. That’s only if the coating isn’t there. If the coating is still intact DO NOT USE any of the metal polishes on it, or the coating will start to be removed. If you want it removed, then you could use the metal polishes, but it would take a lot of work, and cause more work for yourself to have to keep maintaining the polishing of the rails, so they won’t look dull again.

If your rail trims have never been a mirror finish, the anodised coating is still intact and Supernatural Micro Prime would be the best to clean it, with Supernatural Acrylic Spritz on top for a little bit of shine, but it wouldn’t be the mirror finish unfortunately.

I hope this was of some help 

Andy

I hope the foregoing is of assistance.

I use Dodo Juice Lime Prime , to remove the stuborn staining, then Autoglym Super Resin Polish to take off the remaining stain and to give a nice polished clean look , then finish off with DoDo Juice Light Fantastic wax, to protect .
I only need do this probably once or twice a year, and the arches look great after 3 years,.

My advice would be not to leave them get too bad as they can be a bit of a pain to bring back.
Lots of elbow grease and a good regime will do the trick

My neighbour swears by using Windowleen on similar arches on his 2008 Renault Megan, and I have to admit they look like new :eusa-think:
