Hi.

I'm Peter, I live in Buckinghamshire and I'm getting very close to buying my RCZ. I've got a couple of grown-up kids who are driving now, so we're going to need another car. Rather than add to our collection of really-good-but-rather-boring Hondas, I've decided to get what is (in my opinion) the most beautiful car on the road, bar none. Even better, I've managed to persuade my dear wife to let me spend some of our savings on it!

I'm looking to get a three- or four-year-old RCZ, manual gearbox, petrol engine, preferably less than 30,000 on the clock. I'm personally not that bothered whether it's a 156 or a 200, as it's been so long since I had a car with a decent power-to-weight ratio that 156 will be more than enough for me. Colour? Mercury Grey with chrome hoops would be lovely.

So, I have a question for all the experienced RCZ owners out there - what sort of things should I be looking for? What are the RCZ 'gotchas'? What are the things that, when you take your RCZ to the Peugeot dealer, make the service guy shake his head sadly and say 'ooh, they all do that'?

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi & welcome. :greetings-wavingblue:

If you read the many threads of this forum, you would be forgiven for thinking :eusa-think: am I doing the right thing?

But as it has been pointed out many times, people post on here when they have a problem, but people don't post on here when they dont! So it seems like everyone has problems with their Z's. NOT TRUE!!!

Some of the more often mentioned things are

Sills. Check the jacking points, as the Z is renown for not having the strongest sills in the motoring world.

Look for fault lights on dash (if buying privately) as this could indicate things like Timing chain tensioner, or HP petrol pump problems.

If the car has sat nav, check the operation of the screen, and that it doesn't flicker as some older Z's have wiring issues associated with this.

The rest is mainly common sense, that you would apply to any car purchase. If buying from a dealer, make sure there is a warranty period, and that it covers items as mentioned above.

I have never had any of the above mentioned faults, and I know there are many other RCZ owners who have had several RCZ's which speaks volumes.

As you have said, you are about to buy one of the best looking cars available, so be prepared for admiring looks almost everywhere you go. A lot of people will think you have won the lottery or something, as I have had it mentioned to me several times people think it is some kind of supercar and must have cost a fortune.

It is nice to be part of an elite club, as there are not that many Z's on the road, which also adds to their mystique.

Stay in touch on here, we love photos, and should any problems arise, there are many experienced people on here that can help out, but you will probably just want to use this forum to show off how fantastic your new car looks.

Hi drumbux and WELCOME :greetings-wavingblue:

I see that you have come from a history of Honda and hopefully from their reputation (J.D Power surveys) your experiences of them have been good. You are indeed right in stating that the Z' is indeed a very attractive and uniquely styled car which no Z' Forum owners can deny !!

However, as for the 'gotchas' as YOU enquired about, just as you are seeking to do I would always now carry out in-depth and thorough research before purchasing any car purely in order that you make your purchase having weighed up the all the pro's & cons & known issues whether denied or NOT (by the manufacturer) !. I do not say this in anyway to put you off purchasing the one car that actually chooses its owner ,,BUT because nobody wants to end up a disgruntled owner and all car Forums benefit from having an abundance of satisfied owners who wish to and are able to express the the virtues of their p-RIDE & joy !

Everybody will always have a personal opinion on a particular car and some owners will always have been less fortunate than others so enjoy your research on this forum and the internet in general as it should all part of the pre-OWNERSHIP buzz & experience of any car! Be open minded, combine what you Feel as well as what you Read and enjoy several test drives as purchasing a car is akin to a marriage ,,AND try before you buy is something that is often endorsed especially when you look at theses curves !!

Hi Peter and Welcome
your sounds like a similar story to mine my eldest bought and drives his own car and the better half drives a Chevy Captiva which is like a bus with leather seats and drives in a similar manner but each to their own eh?

So when I changed cars as I do every 3 years or so I thought as I drive the vast majority of my miles for work on my own why not as you say upgrade to the best looking car this side of a super car on the road (Yes a Zonda would be better :D but I seemed to be a gazillion ££££s short! )

I have to say touch wood that so far the Z has been an absolute pleasure to own having done 11k since picking it up late July its booked for its first service on the 25th when I will no doubt experience the legendary Pug customer service!

My advice is go for it you wont regret it!

Cheers Dave
