Past week or so I had a Airbag / Pretensioners faulty message pop up as a warning and airbag warning light illuminated on the overhead console. No accidents and no airbags or seats removed, only bumps would have been pot holes or the numerous speed humps i drive over , so presumed loose connection possible cause .checked all connections visually , all seemed secure. Scanned and P0605 Fault of the Drivers Pretensioner was logged ,Ensured I disconnected battery, left for 20+ mins and then checked wiring, disconnected and then reconnected connectors, everything looked OK. Reconnected battery and rescanned, same error . Presumed it was the seatbelt mech with the pre tensioner at fault so sourced one from Ebay. a few days later the new part arrived ... Disconnected the battery, waited, then started to pull off the rear inner driver side panel, learnt the hard way that you need to open the boot, so connected battery back up to open boot , folded the rear seat, removed the rear seat side trim, head rest and seat base, disconnected battery , For the side trim , theres a screw to undo under the small B Pillar trim , and one at the base of the big panel toward the rear of rear seat., and some trim clips which marry up with the boot trim to undo. Then the panel pulls away. Disconnected the OS Drivers pretensioner wiring plug , replaced the seatbelt mech and reconnected, rescanned and same error ...... Puzzled .... I gave up in frustration and decided I would put everything back and revisit. Could it be I had bought a faulty seatbelt mech? so a few days later as a test ..... I decided to check by swapping the passenger mech , use it on the driver side and original Drivers side belt mech on the pass side my assumption was the issue would move . To save time I decided I would connect up the pretensioners only. when I scanned the error moved to the Passenger pretensioner . Having three belt units I eventually identified that my scanner was reporting a Driver PreTensioer fault however the fault was on the UK Nearside passenger side of the car . Is this a quirk of the electronics being setup for LHD or has my car some bizarre identity complex?

I now have no message . I refitted the original Drivers side mech to the driver side, it was never faulty and the unit I purchased off ebay replaced the fault unit on the passenger side., All faults cleared .
