i have done it, you will need a fascia kit and also a dedicated Connects2 adapter lead, this allows you to keep the reversing sensor bleeps, stalk controls and adjust the clock ect. you will need an aerial adapter the headunit swap could be done by a competent diyer, just swapped out the rear 6x9 speakers on mine and it was a real PITA, lots of modding to the speaker place holders and lots of sound deadening. the rear speakers as standard are 20w chinese paper cone ones

doing the fronts in a couple of weeks

personally the only 2 car audio places i trust are
Auto Audio installations in wembley and Cartronics in Byfleet

dont know why the images have rotated

Afternoon all,

My car has the upgraded JBL system and the front speakers (tweeters mostly) have had enough and distort at medium to high volume levels.

I'm looking to get a set of quality focal or JBL splits to replace them. Is anyone possibly able to confirm how much room there is for the large magnets? Is there quite a bit of depth behind the speakers?

I'll also have to work out how to get the crossover into the equation given I understand both the tweeter and mid range are separately aplifiied in the JBL system.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Thanks for that mate, some useful pics. I did a search and read through all of the threads, but that one didn't show up.

Unfortunately it's my tweeters that are buggered, rather than vibration causing distortion. Might consider installing some dynamat when I replace the speakers though.

Highly recommended the sound deadening. The rear 1/4 are massive cavities, thinking back should have maybe doubled up on the deadening in the big panel (small strips) to really control the panel.

We where looking at getting some focal speakers for the car, but the jbl amp is a pain with it running separate channels for the tweeters. I think I posted the ohms for the speakers also, as there isn't much information floating around. If you do replace your rear speakers, I might be interested in grabbing them as a friend of my dad's has an rcz with a blown rear speaker so I might look to help her out and replace it with yours.

Highly highly recommended grabbing those trim clips from China, soo much cheaper than from Peugeot!

I've been trying to find out where people have been running the amp wire to the battery through the firewall but with no luck... I never actually saw this thread when I searched...

Sorry I can't remember that we'll the clearance for the speaker, but they are riveted in place from the factory.

You might find it just easier to replace the factory amp.

Thanks for the advice mate. I'll likely just replace the front speakers for now, but if I do replace the rears I'll keep you in mind.

Ok, I'll look into the sound deadening a bit further when I do the swap.

Yes it's frustrating that the tweeters are amped separately as it makes it difficult to hook up the crossover properly. I'll look into this a bit further this weekend and also do some testing of the speakers (to confirm exactly which ones are distorting.

So, I spent a couple of hours fiddling with the stereo this morning. Managed to solve the distortion problem, nothing to do with the speakers. They absolutely crank now!

Love a good simple solution!

Thanks for your advice. I might look into the sound deadening down the track also.

I'll pull it apart in the coming weeks to work out how it's all wired up, but it seemed to be a sync issue when using the stalk volume controller. Over time the volume on the factory screen at the top of the dash would be out of sync with the deck. I assume this caused an issue with the JBL amp being given more volume from the deck than it was anticipating and therefore distorting when pushed. The fix was as simple as using the stalk to move the volume back to zero until both the unit and the peugeot display were at zero and then increasing volume as normal. Worked a treat and didn't cost me a cent! No distortion, even at HIGH volumes now! I might look to upgrade the speakers down the track, but for now I'm more than happy.
