Hi Guys
I had my cam chain changed (death rattle) in Sept 15, @ 33000 miles £585, I have engine issues for the last 16 months, finally took my car back to Peugeot to take a look as I had got a large oil leak, and it had a recall for a software update.
I have had software update (free) sorting out my oil leak, fitted new fan resistor and redid the timing as it was out, total about £500 :-(
i have been told today that the chain is at its limit and will need another one , total roughly another grand, car now at 66000 surely it shouldn't need another chain, where do I stand ? the 12 month guarantee given for the first chain change has expired

sorry for the long post but to say Im peed off is an understatement.

Thanks
Vince

I'm having the same problem....

Had my chain replaced just over a year ago. I have been getting error code P0012 for few months on and off. Replaced both sensors.

Now in garage again, and they are saying that the timing is out. What with sorting that and all the diagnostics, I'm looking at another £1000.

I really love my RCZ but can't keep throwing money at it like this.

I'd call peugeot directly. just over a year for such vital part of the engine and it already needs replacement!?
Sounds like something wasn't done properly the first time. This is a well know issue too start with and surely shouldn't have to be done every 12 months or so!

As Sanity says get back to Peugeot HQ and tell them about having chain changed and now it been reported that it requires changing again.
Ask what assistance they can offer, as the chain is not a serviceable item, it should last for the life of the vehicle.

Peugeot are not interested as I had the chain changed at an independent Peugeot specialist.

The garage are saying that is over the year so they are not willing to do anything either.

Was it a genuine Peugeot part(s)?

Have you said to the independent garage that it is not a serviceable item, but as you have had them change it it should last the life of the car, unless they have done/not done something else?

Are you mechanically minded enough to do it yourself?

Don't know how the laws are in UK, Here in Sweden it doesn't matter if it's done at peugeot or indipendent dealer.
As long as you are using genuine parts it doesn't matter.

Best of luck

I had my Chain changed at 67000 ish miles. Everything that happened after that change I have listed under " Frustration.....Engine management light and "Limp" mode " on the General Technical topic.

Luckily for me I had the car from a main dealer with extended warranty. How my PEUGEOT dealer delt with this series of faults amazed me. It is the fault code fix that is now the norm, if the computer cannot be reliably interpreted, the techs will change items in an almost blind fashion because that's what the fault tree says. Admittedly I may have had a few parallel faults .. I will never know, all I can say is that they all were flagged after having the timing chain changed...

I have lost faith with this main dealer. The THP engine is just not their bag. It is my opinion and mine alone, that the number of THP Pugs that came into their combined KIA / Peugeot workshop was minimal, the expertise on type appears not to have been there. ( This again is my opinion and not one of any forum or other individuals).

I have sold that car.

I have another RCZ, I went for the R version so god help me with the any possible bills.

I have done some digging and found out that the majority of Pug dealerships are franchises. Not a bad thing but..

Robins and Day.. https://www.robinsandday.co.uk/about-us

"In 1970, the dealerships became a wholly owned subsidiary of Peugeot Motor Company PLC and held the Peugeot franchise exclusively until 2016. Now, the time has come to join with The Citroen Retail Group, introducing the Citroen and DS brands, and start the next chapter in the company’s rich history."

This to me indicates a dealership that potentially has a large number of THP engines to "reference"

It will mean a drive out to the local branch but I am willing to give this a go.

Work done by a specialist should in my opinion be honoured by Peugeot, why it isn't surely is counter productive. If our cars are running and kept running it will all add to the feel good factor that keeps us buying their product in the future.
